Emergency Department Physician Assistant, Harlem Hospital Center 2003-Present Physician Assistant (PA) Clinical duties
• Interview patients and obtain thorough medical history.
• Perform physical examination, thereafter order diagnostic tests, such as EKG, X-ray, Ultrasound, CT etc.
• Make diagnoses based on cumulative information collect to which appropriate treatment is maintained.
• Perform therapeutic procedures, such as injections, venipuncture, arterial line insertion, nasogastric intubation, removal of foreign bodies, urethral catheterization, application of casts, splints and wound care i.e. debridement and dressing changes. Anesthetize patients either through local, digital or IV regional block prior to performing the following procedures: suturing, ingrown toenail removal, incision and drainage of abscesses and reduction of closed dislocations and fractures.
• Assist with (during trauma) basic and advanced life support, IV therapy by peripheral, central and venous cut downs, endotracheal intubation, thoracentessis, pericardiocentesis.
• Receive patients brought in by EMS and prepare comprehensive assessment of their care needs, including checking vital signs. Evaluate, develop, and implement treatment plans for patients’ needs. Evaluate patient data in emergencies to determine necessity for substance abuse treatment.
