WORK EXPERIENCE

My original career was as a Cartographer, but I also worked as a Technical Assistant and Graphic Illustrator.

My son was born in 1995 and has Asperger's Syndrome. He was unable to attend school and in the absence of an alternative I took on the responsibility of educating him myself. I studied and sat many exams along with him, including the ECDL, Advanced ECDL & Intermediate 2 Maths. Latterly I taught my son to use AutoCAD, and we completed a course through ICS in order to get a qualification. At the same time as teaching my son, I studied for a Certificate in Autism through Birmingham University and also gained a certificate as a Teaching Assistant by distance learning. My son successfully returned to school (in a phased return) and sat SQA Standard Grades, Highers and Advanced Highers. He went on to achieve an A pass HNC in Mechanical Engineering and is now studying for his degree.

I returned to full time employment as a Technical Drafting Specialist in January 2012. EDUCATION
