Oversight of cooling treatment, makeup water, condensate polishing, & FGD system operating as a zero liquid discharge facility. Water treatment operations responsibility included maintenance and engineering for the 9 MGD Dunkard Creek Water Treatment plant in Dilliner, PA. Monongahela River treatment includes ballasted clarification, multimedia/micro filtration, reverse osmosis, and 7 mile pipeline system. 1. 99.96% first year availability of water treatment facility. Significant improvements made in reverse osmosis operations and ethernet & modbus communications for distributed multi plc network. 2. Plant coagulant changed yielding 3 x improvements in clarifier discharge quality and consistent ability to meet product water quality specification. 3. Improved pretreatment to improve SDI consistency and implemented a RO membrane condition monitoring and cleaning program. Water plant predictive & preventative maintenance program put in place by end of first year of operation. 4. Key member of FGD operations team resolving limestone blinding, oxidation air limitations, and fines accumulation gypsum dewatering issues. Successfully utilized low CaCO3 limestone to meet 99.8% SO2 removal requirement. DBA, dewatering polymer, and particle size analysis utilized. 5. Steam generators included 3 pulverized coal boilers, 4 stokers, and 13 package boilers. Electricity generated at 2 locations. 1. Supported implementation of 8 boiler emission projects at 4 facilities as part of a multisite USEPA consent decree. Included technical & economic feasibility, equipment selection, and commissioning for 4 coal boiler low NOx burner over fire air projects and a pulverized coal PRB conversion. Emission reduction and completion date requirements were achieved. 2. Key member of combustion safety team. New burner management systems installed on 6 boilers and reviews of 8 additional boilers completed. MOC/PSSR processes implemented. 3. Completed a Process Hazard Analysis of the Eddyville PRB coal handling system and made recommendations. Electrical classification audits completed at 3 coal handling sites. 4. Sold local 120 acre sand dune prairie restoration project to be added as a supplemental environmental project as part of USEPA vs Cargill 2005 consent decree. 5. Engineer for the Eddyville Utilities site and support in developing scope, preliminary engineering, and budgets for approx $30MM of USEPA consent decree projects for the Cargill Corn Milling business unit. 1. Design of 2-800HP ID fan rotating elements. Maintenance interval extended from 1 to 3 years. 2. Project development of a $1.7 MM reliability energy project to install 3-800HP centrifugal compressors in a central compressed air station. 12 distributed compressors replaced. 3. Oversight of $14MM project on 3-175,000#/hr spreader stokers. 50% emission reduction & 3% efficiency gain attained. Installed new finned-tube economizers and upgraded super heaters. 4. Made 3 operational visits to cogeneration facilities in China. Included due diligence review of a CFB circulating fluidized bed combustor cogeneration facility as part of a pending oilseeds processing plant purchase. 5. Initiated collaboration with boiler and environmental teams to develop a CEMS equipment and maintenance standard. $300k+ savings for 21 CEMS systems. 6. Active site I2I team (Innovation promotion process) and waste minimization team member.
