Process Kaizen Engineer: Manager of Quality, Production Planning and Continuous Improvements

Recent Key Accomplishments:

Using Lead Time Reduction Methodology, I managed a reduction from 35 days to less than 14 days for all product lines.

Set-up Reductions (SMED) from greater than one hour to less than 15 minutes.

Developed methodology for Early Equipment Management. This innovative process allows the company to run a production piece the same day that the vendor turns the machine over.

Live OEE / Machine Status / Work orders / on the shop floor on LCD’s.

KPI like set-up average per week, OEE, Utilization, Good Minutes Production and more in each cell for employee information. These are displayed as either a screen saver or separate stand-alone pc.

I was the only manager chosen from our facility for the Seco Talent Pool for Managers. (One year program with a successful certificate achieved for Advanced Management Applications)

Innovative installation of a new DNC system that allows us to attach drawing to the program and ensures ECN process. This implementation that I managed and initiated improved compliance with the ISO 9001 demands and was customer driven to assure quality compliance.

Due to the decision of Seco Tools to shut down the manufacturing operation in Lenoir City, TN, I am currently looking for a career opportunity in my field as a Manager of Quality, Production Planning or Continuous Improvements. I possess a two year degree in Process Kaizen Engineering. With Analytical and Strategic Thinking, I successfully led the Seco facility from 50% OEE to 85% OEE (World Class). I deployed multiple teams that resulted in a reduced our PPM levels to less than 500 PPM. This was in a in a low batch / high volume facility. I also worked as a global resource for Seco. I frequently traveled to many countries benchmarking within the Seco group and I was also in charge of auditing all other facilities for their current position and activities for improvements.

My experience includes Management, Executive Local staff, shop floor knowledge, change management, and problem solving. I managed six direct employees and 85 indirect. My experience includes purchasing and implementing real time LCD’s for OEE, Average Set-ups, Machine Status, and many more features. I was responsible for implementing the new DNC system in our facility in which I would be glad to explain the time savings. A detailed oriented person with strong critical thinking, problem solving, trouble shooting, math skills and industrial knowledge of tools/inserts and cutting techniques.

Received a promotion as Manager of the Quality Department in which I have three additional direct reports, A Quality Engineer and two Inspectors. Objectives were to assure the Quality of our products and to drive down the PPM numbers. YTD 2013 PPM level is at 508.

Quality Management Responsibilities:

ISO Quality Management System, ISO 9001/14000 Internal Audit Team. Compliance to approve certified vendors. All environmental permits and reports with regard to production processes including Air Quality, Storm Water, Waste Stream, and Hazardous Waste.

Programs and troubleshoot Zeiss CMM and Duramax CMMs.

Improve processes within production by implementing preventative maintenance as a result of defect reduction teams. Example: Returns related to black oxide have been lowered 90% while reducing chemical usage 15% and wastewater by 16% in the last reporting year (2012) and 54% reduction in water usage since 2006.

Institute corrective and preventive actions as necessary with both internal and external customers. Review and document effectiveness of corrective and preventive actions.

Management of Production Planning / (Local MBO Staff) Responsibilities

Gained two direct reports that are Production Planning and Control Specialist and One Local IT Specialist

Managed the movement of all production planning and scheduling from our corporate location to our local facility.

Responsible for pulling two separate systems together one local (PRMS / AS400) and another global (Movex) while assuring that we continued to meet our customer’s needs.

Manage all releases of products to our facility.

Global representative for instituting a new logistics Voyager system.

Responsible for controlling and assigning PAP, ECO’s (Product Introductions) and ECN’s.

Responsible for on time delivery for both Specials and Standards.

Manager of Continuous Improvements Responsibilities

Lead a subpar facility to being the benchmark for the entire Global Seco Group.

Utilized Efeso methodologies to teach employees. 80 plus methodologies.

Lead Steering Committee and Oversee all Pillars and supported all active teams

Train methodologies within Industrial Engineering, Operations Management, Quality Management, and Maintenance Management. Accomplishment examples: OEE from 50% to 85%, Reduction of Lead Time from 42 days to <14 days 2012, saved 90 miles of walking for two assembly employees per year, Average set-up times reduced from (45-95 min to 7-15 min)SMED, PPM reduction down to 500, trained and deployed teams for all methodologies used within the Continuous Improvement System. Deployment based from monitored losses from OEE.

Perform audits and advised all global Seco facilities such as Sweden (Three facilities), India, Brazil, Troy MI, PA, France.

Researched, purchased and implemented the VersaCall automated data collection system for OEE losses. Creation of real time information on LCD’s for OEE, machine status and all machine losses. The active OEE screens contain machine status (Red / Green), Current weeks OEE (85% = Green, Yellow = 70% – 84.9%, and red for less than 70%. The YTD date information is in each area either as a screen saver or a mounted All in One pc. This system allows for pages to maintenance by a tri-state alarm. We can get the response time and the mean time to repair from this alarm feature. This system allows for setting goals and trigger points for all methodologies. Assure maintaining of gains by doing two audits per month in each area. This is critical to the success of continuous improvements. Plant Manager and I audit the first day of the month and then Pillar members audit on the fifteenth of the month.

Researched, purchased and implemented Cimco DNC system to load programs to our CNC machines. We are able to attach prints, mls files, word documents, creating no need to print out a paper copy of the drawing. This system allows us to load from any computer to any machine in the facility. Also assures that ECN’s are caught and locked until proper program changes are made.
