Independent HR Consultant – Lumin Health 1/2015 – Present
Contracted to build core Human Resources functions. Project deliverables include a regional wage analysis for the DFW area as well as for the Tucson, AZ market, create an annual performance evaluation system and an advanced on-boarding process. Contract still in progress. (Work on contract is with UGH Corporate approval.)
Interim Chief Executive Officer (HR Professional) - University General Hospital Dallas 11/2014 – Present
Took control of UGH Dallas during a difficult period after loss of CEO and deep financial distress. Effectively reduced staffing from 300 to 125 while maintaining operations to support hospital licensure and Joint Commission accreditation. Completing the challenging task of closing the hospital per Corporate's dictate. Reports directly to Corporate.
Chief Operating Officer & HR Director - University General Hospital Dallas 5/2013 – 11/2014
Hired to create and manage the Human Resources function for University General Hospital Dallas but then promoted to Chief Operating Officer soon after while also maintaining the HR function. Managed the following additional departments at UGHD: Cardiopulmonary, Lab, Pharmacy, Radiology, IT, Human Resources, EVS, Facilities and Food Services. Reported directly to the CEO with reporting requirement to the Governing Board.
Accomplishments at UGH Dallas (COO & HR Director) – 325+ employees supported
Compliance Readiness: Completed four TDH/CMS survey responses including UGH Dallas' tri-annual compliance survey. All state and federal survey requirements were completed successfully.
oTJC Accreditation - Lead the organization's effort to obtain Joint Commission accreditation status. This was the first time the hospital had attained this recognition in over 10 years. The entire process was completed in less than six months from inception to accreditation.
Project Management: Executed a complete overhaul of the former payroll system by converting to Paychex HRIS and Benetrac benefits enrollment system.
Process Improvement: Originated a majority of UGHD’s HR policies, procedures & processes
oCreated the “Compensation Calculator” and “STD/LTD Rate Calculator” to emphasize the competitive edge of UGHD’s benefits to add value to the recruiting, onboarding and orientation processes.
oGenerated current evaluation process for entire UGH system including automated evaluation form.
oCreated “Manager’s Toolbox” to support easy access to HR-related management materials
Compensation Management: Originated the compensation strategy for UGH Dallas including performing two market surveys each year to ensure its financial and retention goals were met.
Training & Development: Trained all management staff on the use and function of the updated applicant tracking system (ATS) as well as created the current evaluation process for the entire UGH system; including writing and presenting the “Supervisor’s Guide to Performance Management”.
Employee Recognition: Replaced legacy systems with “T.E.A.M. Employee Recognition System”. This very unique system actively drives culture by emphasizing great customer service, patient care and communication.
Remote Locations: Supported seven outpatient clinics located off campus of UGH Dallas.
Limited Liability: Performed a reduction in force (RIF) while partnering with the Texas Workforce Commission to limit liability exposure while emphasizing good business practices to outside agencies.
Corporate Director of Human Resources - Forest Park Medical Center 2/2010 – 5/2013
(Hospital & Corporate HR Director) – 635 employees supported
Remote HR Support: Performed all HR functions for business development employees in Austin, San Antonio, Southlake, Ft Worth & Frisco. HR Director for Dallas hospital and Shared Services (corporate office).
Deep HR Knowledge - Wrote employee handbook and originated every HR policy & procedure.
Recruitment: Performed all recruitment and onboarding processes from early 2010 until late 2011.
oIn Sept. 2011, hired raw candidate with no experience and trained as recruiter; in 2013 when departing the organization this person was promoted to Director of Talent Acquisition for entire hospital system.
Implementation: Converted 500+ employee files into a 100% paperless employee file system in three months using existing staff members at FPMC included conversion and tracking of all certifications and licensure.
oIncludes new payroll, time & attendance, applicant tracking and benefit enrollment system roll-outs.
Decision Support: Created automated “Hours Report” pivot table program to provide managers with daily information to eliminate potential overtime situations for each department.
Compliance Readiness: Completed Forest Park’s comprehensive HFAP hospital recertification with the HR department having only one minor correctable item; far better than any other department in the organization.
oSupported multiple external audits of the 401k system while complying with all ERISA requirements
Benefits Expertise: Negotiated multiple benefit renewals with brokers and managed all benefit open enrollments.
