Sicong Bian has held positions as resident conductor of the Xiamen Philharmonic Orchestra and principal conductor of the Xiamen Youth Orchestra affiliated to Xiamen University.
A graduate of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, Sicong received Master of Music degree in Orchestral Conducting. Before studying in the U.S, he had got through with the undergraduate programs both in Orchestral Conducting and Piano Performance with great success in the Shanghai Conservatory of Music. In the summers of 2006 and 2009, he was one of five selected participants in Asia to appear in master classes with Charles Dutoit and Michael Tilson Thomas with the San Francisco Symphony. He has also participated in workshops and master classes with such distinguished conductors as Gennady Rozhdestvensky, Pinchas Zukerman, Branwell Tovey, Gustav Meier, Larry Rachleff, and Markand Thakar. Sicong is also a passionate advocate for new music. He has led many debuts of contemporary music such as the work ZEN, for string orchestra, by Chinese composer Shenying Qian. Sicong served as assistant conductor of Jiangsu Symphony Orchestra and Shanghai Wanfang Symphony Orchestra before joining the XPO. During that time he conducted those orchestras in hundreds of critically acclaimed concerts. In 2013, Sicong conducted many concerts with XPO in a variety of music genres, which were classical season, music for families and 2014 Xiamen New Year Concert. In 2014, Sicong has conducted several concerts featuring the works of Haydn, Mozart and Ravel, he will also lead the orchestra to perform concerts of the Beethoven series. As a solo and collaborative pianist, Sicong has gained a large numbers of experiences on stages. He appeared, with XPO, both as a conductor and pianist in a concert of all Mozart’s works playing Mozart Piano Concerto No.21 K.467. He has also performed with world class musicians such as Klaus Stoll (Former Principal Bassist of Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra) and Stefan Schulz. (Bass Trombonist of Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra)
In May of 2015, the Symphonic Band of Xiamen Music School, under his baton, won the first prize at Wind Band Competition of the 32nd Shanghai Spring International Music Festival. Meanwhile, he won the “Best Conductor” prize as well.
