Up to 16 to 18 degree DLS in curve keeping to min. below 4 degree in lateral.

Wells were drilled with laterals up to 9000’ total MD 16,100’. We Run up to 40 Packers and 40 Frac Ports assembly in lateral sections. Using SOBM on the long reach horizontal hole sections & WBM from start to landing curve. We try to keep 14 degree dog legs & less in curve and no more than a 1 degree per 100 in lateral. Worked with rig crews to help improve trip times and rig performance.
Chesapeake, Drilling Consultant Nov 2010 – Feb 2012
Pennsylvania in the Marcellus Shale
Good working knowledge of Air and closed loop systems. Worked closely with personnel to maintain a clean working environment due to the Extreme Environmental issue, Used up to 13.9 lbs/gal oil base mud. Very low gas pressure but wt. needed to hold back sluffing shale. Extended Reach training is a needed course to drill the Marcellus. I had EREDIC (extended reach training) with K&W back in 2008 which was a 3 or 4 day class. Chesapeake sent me again in 2011 for a 2 day course. I didn’t have to go because of already having taken the course but was given the choice to go if I wanted to. All consultants drilling for Chesapeake in the PA. Marcellus shale was required to attend that class.
Texas Panhandle in the Anadarko Field.
Drilling horizontal wells in the Granit Wash. Very sensitive formation with lots of gas. Using oil base mud to max of 8.8 to 8.9 wt. to hold back gas. If mud wt. exceeds 8.9 there’s a very good chance of losing mud. Well control knowledge is very important drilling in the Granit wash. Trip gas was controlled through the choke. Holding too much pressure back to stop gain increase while cir. Bottoms up could blow the bottom out of the well. Not holding enough pressure would cause the gas separator to unload and blow mud out of the flare. Sometimes we had to Strip in the hole with casing due to gas influx and not able to increase mud wt.
