RECEIVING: I Perform material inspection and determine material class by verifying quantity accuracy, material inspection and test dates, unit of issue, shelf life, coding, stock numbers, nomenclature, type, size, condition, date of pack, level of pack, and markings to ascertain compliance with contracts, purchase agreement, technical manuals, drawings, supply bulletins and stock catalogs. Determine if items are properly marked and labeled and annotate any missing components, and record required data on the receipt documentation and update DSS with proper transactions. Hazard Operations, sensitive, or security material is examined and preliminary research is conducted before processing to other work areas. Assist in the preparation of reports to the item/commodity managers at the various centers providing basis for the change in condition code, material class and cost of repair estimates. Prepare itemized reports when product discrepancies are identified, i.e., shortage, overage, incorrect stock numbers, damage, etc. Assist subject matter experts(SME) to identify and examine complex and difficult material that is without markings or documentation, require extensive research to complex specifications, serviceability standards, vendor catalogs, technical manuals, DSS computer data, records, and listings. Interpret equipment and material specifications to determine defects and missing components. Determine and apply special material handling requirements and special coding if applicable. Determine material conditions by checking for dents, broken and missing parts, corrosion, and compliance with contract for marking, packing, and labeling.

SELECTION/PICKING: Requested by management to assist the selection area during times of heavy workload. Check material for damage, broken or missing parts, corrosion, dents, etc. when picking material for shipment. Select material for shipment and verify against the shipping document and/or pick record on the computer terminal that item is properly marked, tagged, labeled, that they are in properly marked containers, and contain the correct quantity. Package picked items in appropriate package, bag, or plastic based on the commodity and destination in preparation for packing. Transport items to appropriate conveyor lines, load and unload conveyances, and route items on conveyances to proper packing areas. Use proper warehousing procedures to verify item material identification by comparing information on shipping and receiving documentation with stock items. Verify NSNs in location are in accordance with latest material identification changes. Annotate documentation with proper special material handling information. Manually handle material by stacking, palletize, stage, arrange and rotate items according to height, width, weight based on warehousing policies and storage plans and my knowledge of aisles, rows, and tiers within warehouses.

PACKING: Requested by management to assist the packing area during times of heavy workload. Apply technical packing practices for material requiring special material handling such as appropriate regulations covering hazardous materials. Determine appropriate packing methods, techniques, and packing materials based on specifics of the material being packed, i.e., heavy, oversized, fragile, subsistence, general commodity, industrial, medical, clothing & textiles, etc. Determine requirements or and use devices such as wooden boxes, skids, mounts and brackets, hangers and other packing aids. Order wooden boxes and crates from the wood working facility to pack specific hazardous materials. Verify material being packed against the Issue Release Receipt Document (IRRD) and Pick Ticket to ensure the item and quantity matches the customer requests on the Material Release Order (MRO). Perform basic math to determine if correct quantity has been forwarded for packing. Pack and repack material in cartons with appropriate cushioning material to prevent shifting and damage of contents while in transit. Prepare appropriate shipping labels for type of transportation mode being shipped and segregate packed material according to shipping destinations. Affix special material handling labels and destination labels to shipments. Prepare palletized material using specific dimensions pallets ordered from the wood working operations and pack according to instructions specific to air or surface transportation. Palletize material using proper methods of strapping, banding, or shrink wrap, whichever is appropriate for the type of material and packs to be shipped.
