PROJECTS HANDLED
1. Matlab modeling of Fuel Gauging Algorithm with attitude compensation
Responsibilities: Developing Matlab code for estimating the fuel level at various attitudes of the aircraft.
The fuel capacity during the flight is been provided by the fuel flow meter. But these readings are found to be non reliable at some attitudes. As a novel approach fuel gauging through interpolation and extrapolation using Matlab coding was carried out. The necessary real time fuel data is obtained from the aircraft by experiments on the ground. These inputs were run through Matlab for Fuel Gauging and the results were found to be more reliable.
2. Simulating Mission planning and performing a complete automated flight
Responsibilities: Formulating the mission plan. Testing using PID controls.
For a given scenario of flight type and situation mission planning of the Aircraft under various modes of control are to be simulated. This simulation provides the feedback data which will be used for tuning the control surfaces, as if it would be in real time flying environment. The program used for mission planning and UDP data link between the systems is C language.
3. Integration and Unit testing of Unmanned Micro Air Vehicle:
Responsibilities: Performing HIL (Hardware In Loop) testing on commercial off the shelf (COTS).
At early stage the source code (in C language) of the aircraft was tested using Software In Loop (SIL) under Linux environment. And achieved full mission simulation in Flightgear simulation for 6Dof (Degree of freedom) model. Later the HIL testing was carried out by dumping the code in the embedded autopilot board and the results were analyzed with that of the SIL testing. Further requirements were notified from time to time on the control surface operations, and code was developed to meet the desired task.
4. Animating the Landing gear mechanism.
Responsibilities: To carry out animation of few mechanisms to get a perspective view for further improvements.
The mechanisms of landing gear in the aircraft are animated. The airframe provided as a CATIA model is exported to animation software. Then the landing gear deployment and retracting motions are animated with respect to the inputs provided. The results are analyzed and inputs are configured. XML script was used to perform the simulation through Flightgear. Developed entire script file for the Landing Bay and Control Surfaces mechanisms.
5. Concept evaluation on Radio Controlled Aircraft Model.
Responsibilities: Performing outdoor flight trials of an RC model.
The data acquired from the flight trials are implemented on the proposed scaled model of the aircraft. Flight Data from the real time flight was compared with the simulated approach and the mission planning code was developed attain good results.
