LAST 20 YEARS EXPERIENCE
My last 25 years covers 11 years with Hoechst (South Africa), 5 years with Dow Automotive (Germany), 3 years in Denel Saab Aerostructures ( South Africa) and 7 years consulting to KACST (Saudi Arabia).
While at Hoechst I have successfully managed, designed and developed quite a verity of industrial and automotive thermoplastic products. My CAD, CAE, FEA hands-on experience is very broad covering plastic and mechanical products. Thermoplastic applications varied from industrial products such as: crates, pallets, garden furniture and domestic appliances, to automotive types such as: bumpers and instrumental panels, air intake manifolds, blow molded seatbacks, roof trims, door panels, etc. All design processes involved economical, technological, and production aspects with close liaison to sales, technical and top management personnel.
In my role as an Engineering Project Manager at Dow Automotive (Frankfurt Germany) I was developing new plastic solutions utilizing engineers from Detroit and India offices as well as consultant groups for specific topics. Our client’s portfolio ranged from European Tiers to OEMs (Russia included). I have successfully managed new projects for instrumental panels blow molded seat backs and PA66 GF air intake manifolds. Our work was fully computerized with Tele and videoconference facilities. Dow Automotive was certified with QS 9000 and ISO 169494 quality standards.
By January 2005 I returned to South Africa and decided to act as a consulting engineer. Since March 2005 I contracted to Denel Saab Aerostructures Pty Ltd. as a Principal Stress Engineer. I provided stress FEA calculation for Battelieur UAV all airframe composite structures. Thereafter I worked 2 years on Airbus A400M Wing Fuselage Fairing project in the composite team providing composite panels lay-ups optimizations based on Yamada Sun RF failure criterions.
Since November 2007 till Dec 2014 I contracted to Space and Aeronautical Technologies Institute at (KACST) King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia).I converted South African “Battelieur” UAV design into SAKER UAV by accommodating engine at the rear fuselage and providing new internal structure with lay-ups optimization and composite failure verification for all entire airframes. I was responsible for FEA calculation for all projects at the Institute . I also trained and supervised staff in related Computer Aided Engineering activities.
