Professor "BAM"
Long Island, NY (Nassau & Suffolk)
Private tutoring: Academic subjects, including mathematics, sciences, geography, history, and writing.
Test-prep: Techniques for raising scores on "standardized tests" such as SAT/PSAT, ACT, GRE, LSAT, MCAT, etc. (as well as Regents, AP, GED, ASVAB and Civil Service exams).
Tutoring Approach/Experience
APPROACH:
I focus on understanding of the concepts and developing the student's ability to solve problems -- rather than tedious drill and temporary memorization.
EXCELLENCE
1. I get results! (Demonstrated score improvement, passing courses, raising grades, etc.)
2. Knack for establishing good rapport with each student.
3. Focus on understanding concepts and developing skills and strategies to solve problems.
4. Also, my ability to make things understandable, in writing and in discussion.
EXPERIENCE:
30+ years college teaching, plus private tutoring in academic subjects and "test-prep" techniques. Also taught and/or managed many employee-training programs. Developed curricula for training programs, civil-service exam preparation courses, etc. as well as for after-school science clubs and summer camps.
My professional career was primarily in software development and management, at Brookhaven National Lab (BNL), Grumman, Robotic Vision, American Science, and other Long Island companies, and as a software consultant and website developer.
I am also a professional writer, with thousands of pages published, and I currently host two weekly radio shows on a local radio station. Since my early retirement from BNL in 1999, I have increased my teaching and tutoring, as well as my professional writing and radio-broadcasting activities.

Student Feedback
"Tremendous wealth of knowledge; Terrific person to deal with; Very professsional; Exceptional service"
- Maureen from Garden City, NY
I have nothing but positive things to say about 'Professor BAM'. Not only was he incredibly knowledgeable about so many different subjects, but he was a pleasure to deal with and always very accommodating. My daughter was tutored in Trigonometry and the amount of patience and clarity that Professor BAM taught with was unmatched. (I wish I would have found him when my daughter was having trouble in Algebra.) Thank you for your excellent service.
"Great Tutor"
- Mary, from Port Jefferson, NY
I have to say, Prof. Bam is wonderful. My son loved him! He strengthened his weaknesses and made him think "out of the box". His test scores were amazing. I believe the way Prof. Bam teaches makes it fun, interesting and engaging! My son couldn't wait to sit down with him and do some work!
"Professor BAM is the best"
- Patricia from Copiague, NY
At the first meeting Professor BAM and student got acquainted with each other and it went very well. He was aware that the student is visually impaired and he accepted the challenge to tutor AP Physics. He covered all the students. questions. In addition to tutoring the student, the Professor went above and beyond his tutoring. In the next session, he was additionally well prepared for this session. He provided special tactile visual materials that he created himself to help the student .visualize. the concepts to be covered. He did this on his own and it was extremely helpful. The following sessions, Professor BAM went over the school lessons and covered test results to reinforce the students. understanding. He continues to provide school lesson reviews, reviewing test results and introducing additional concepts to help with the learning process and future tests. We are very satisfied with the sessions and the techniques and approach Professor BAM uses to teach, he definitely is the best.
"Great Tutor"
- Latia from Islip, NY
Professor Bruce Alan M was a great tutor. Very thorough with his work. Easy to reach and very flexible with scheduling. Because of his help I receieved an A in Statistics.
"Prof. BAM is a really great tutor"
- Sue S. from Greenlawn, NY
Professor BAM tutored my son for about four months, prepping him for the dreaded SAT. This exam is not really a test of knowledge. It's not necessarily what you know, but how to take the test that will get you the best results. Prof. BAM knows the strategies needed to improve student test scores. My son's SATs went from an 1150 to a 1370 in just a very short time. Here are a few comments from my son: - He has a great personality - He's very easy to understand - He's very knowledgeable about the subjects - He has a very flexible schedule I would highly recommend Prof. BAM. The proof of his work is in the final SAT score. We were very happy with Prof. BAM and the results of his work.
"ASVAB - REVIEW"
- Steven H. from Commack, NY
Bruce has a thorough knowledge of the curriculum and a technique that grasps the attention of my son. My son almost doubled his score after being tutored by Bruce and will once again re-take the exam on order to further improve. Right after I complete this response I will also schedule Professor BAM for several sessions prior to the next exam.
"Review for Professor BAM"
- Bethany H. from Levittown, NY
Professor Bruce was very patient. He had many different MCAT books which he let me borrow and use to study. He was very encouraging and if I had any question at all about the physics or verbal section he was able to answer it. He would stay with me as long as I needed. He is a very smart and optimistic person and I would recommend him to any of my friends.
"miracle worker"
- Wendy S. from Oyster Bay, NY
"Professor BAM" was very patient with my son, and was able to teach him material that he found very difficult to learn in a traditional classroom. There was constant communication amongst the student, the parent, and the tutor which was a recipe for success. I highly recommend Bruce.
"The Best!"
- Brian G. from East Meadow, NY
Prof. BAM is a wonderful teacher. He is incredibly patient and has a great deal of knowledge in many subject areas. He has been working with my son in chemistry, math and SAT prep. I am only sorry that we did not find him earlier! My son is not an eager student, nor an easy kid to tutor. We have been through many tutors who have not been able to reach him. Prof. BAM has been terrific with my son, explaining complex ideas in ways that are easy to understand. We highly recommend him!
