Objective
I am looking for a full-time or contract (preferred) position as an analyst and/or designer-developer on document-imaging and/or workflow projects. Please note that I have significant experience in this technology, having been responsible for workflow systems for several large private-sector and non-profit organizations
The position should preferably be located in the Dallas area with allowances for working remotely. I am amenable to situations that require extensive travel.
Summary of Professional Experience
Image Connection (Laguna Niguel, California through mid-2014; now located in Rowlett, Texas)
Founder and President, 1991 to 2002, 2005-present
2011-present (semi-retired)
Strategic enterprise architect for DaVita Health Care Partners. This role develops company-wide strategies for IT projects that affect multiple applications and departments, and requires a thorough understanding of the architecture, functionality, database structure, and data-exchange mechanics of all of the critical applications within the organization.
The position also requires periodic development of resources employed by multiple departments, including applications, conversion utilities, and data-related resources. The bulk of this activity takes place in MS-SQL (Transact-SQL), Oracle (PL/-SQL), Visual Basic, Excel, Access, and VBA.
2005-2010 (semi-retired)
Design and implementation of workflow solutions for large end-users, including business analysis, database and application design, and integration services. Often responsible exclusively for application architecture and design, with actual development performed by staff or offshore resources. Specialist in A/P workflow solutions (for approximately 30 clients).
Development of database-oriented applications, principally with MS-SQL. These include user-facing applications (in which other team members handle user-interface tasks), along with conversion projects.
1991-2002
Provider of system integration, design, consulting, and application development services to vendors, resellers, and end-users in the document-image industry. Specialist in the integration of third-party products with (image-based) optical archiving systems.
Approximately 70% of the activity performed by the company was with customers and resellers of FileNet, both domestic and international. The company principally engaged in application design and programming, but was also responsible for integration of third-party products with the FileNet framework (including development of products subsequently marketed by FileNet and its channel partners), as well as development and presentation of courses covering image-processing techniques.
Major Projects 1997-2014
DaVita Health Care Partners (2005-2014)
Enterprise architect and strategist for two major projects:
Migration to federally-mandated ICD-10 diagnosis standards, which affected about 50 discrete applications and databases (10 with major user-interface upgrades), and 100 data-exchange operations (2012-2014)
Conversion of the company’s Chart of Accounts, which affected about 135 discrete applications and databases, and 265 data exchange operations. (2011)
Accounts Payable Workflow Systems (2003-2010)
Design, development, and documentation of enterprise A/P processing systems, performed at Gauss (2003-2004) and in partnership with Ed Malley (2005-2010). Large scale applications included those for:
Saint-Gobain Industries (Muncie, Indiana; 2003)
MBM Corporation (Rocky Mount, North Carolina; 2003)
AARP (Washington, DC; 2004)
Genesco Corporation (Nashville, Tennessee; 2007)
Wilbur-Ellis Corporation (Seattle, Washington; 2009)
Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, New York, NY (1997-2000)
Project leader, principal designer, and (initially) lead developer for an electronic signature system for the hospital’s 900 nurses and physicians. This project consumed much of three years of my life, and at its height involved 7 programmers, as well as quality assurance, database, and support personnel. The code, written in C++ (using ATL templates) and Visual Basic, included interfaces to FileNet, Oracle, and embedded Microsoft Word. The application is still in use by every physician and nurse at the hospital.

Extensive travel; my employment framework was defined as 50% pre-sales activity, and 50% application development.
