Brief resume of research work:

My research work during PhD was mainly the synthesis of hydrazono-thiazolidin-4-ones and 2,4-disubstituted thiazoles containing naphthalene, carbazole, benzofuran, benzothiophene etc. moieties. The synthesis of new Indazoly-thiazolidin-4-ones, hydrazo-thiazinan-4-ones and thiazolo[2,3-b]benzo[f]quinazoline derivatives have also been accomplished. The structure and regiochemistry of the cyclised products under study was established by spectroscopic methods such as IR, NMR (1H, 13C & 2D-COSY) and Mass spectroscopy. X-ray crystallographic studies of some of the cyclised products was undertaken to establish their structure in the solid state.

Computational studies (DFT method) of cyclised products and their regioisomers were done on Gaussian 09W software package. Proton and Carbon NMR chemical shifts of the isomers were calculated and compared with experimental results for structure validation. The antimicrobial activities (antibacterial and antifungal) of all the newly synthesized thiazolidin-4-one and thiazole derivatives have been examined and compared with standard drugs.
