UMMC is licensed to operate 697 beds and provides primary, secondary, and
tertiary care to medical, surgical, neurological, mental health,
pediatrics, obstetrics and trauma patients. UMMC is the only Level 1
Trauma Center in Mississippi, and contains the only Children's Hospital.
Additionally, a large multi-specialty ambulatory care service is located
in various locations on campus as well as off-campus. The infection
prevention department consists of 5 Infection Preventionists, and one
Data Analyst.
Work duties include:
Familiar with CMS, BCBS, OSHA, TJC, ASHE, and state regulations and
guidelines.
Establishment of the hand hygiene monitoring program in 72 different
locations.
Perform CLABSI, CAUTI, VAP, and SSI surveillance and reporting a data
analysis of the infection rate using the National HealthCare Safety
Network (NHSN) benchmark, and standardized infection ratio (SIR)
Develop and update infection prevention policies aimed to improve the
quality of care provided to both outpatient and inpatient.
Annual reduction and achievement of less than expected infection number
of CLABSI, CAUTI, SSI, and MDROs.
Annual update of the infection prevention plan, risk assessment,
evaluation, and goals for inpatient and ambulatory settings
Updating the annual MTB risk assessment and prevention policy, reviewing
and evaluating of MTB exposure cases.
Manage the department of Infection Prevention, some of the duties
include: budget, leave time, annual evaluation, staff competencies, and
training new employees.
Organizing the infection prevention committee monthly meetings.
Performing quarterly problem solving methods; (plan, do, study, act
(PDSA).
Reviewing all HAC cases for the clinical documentation department.
Working with Environment of Care and life Safety department on interim
life safety risk assessment, construction permits, and construction
surveys.
Working with Physical Facilities Department on center wide monitoring of
temperature, humidity, air pressure, and air flow.
Identification of variants in evidence-based medical practice and sub-
standard performance and recommended opportunities for improvement.
Design quality activities, facilitated teamwork and implemented project
plan to elevate the organization Health Quality measurements.
Set vision and development of education courses for hospital staff and
medical to improve staff performance.
