AmeriFirst Federal Savings and Loan
Vice President of Marketing
I was responsible for site selection for the establishing of new branch
locations. I would generate the initial market research, find the
appropriate site and turn over the project to the Legal, Real Estate and
Property Management departments to complete the acquisition, purchase and
build out. During the acquisition and construction phases I would develop
a marketing, sales promotion and traffic building plan for the grand
opening and future operation of the branch. I consistently raised over $1
million in a three to five day grand openings.
National Liberty Marketing, Inc.
Director
National Liberty Marketing, Inc. was a division of National Liberty
Insurance Company, a $200 million business which had over $2 billion of
insurance in force. Using various methods of the direct response industry,
I was responsible for the growth and development of the National Small
Business Association for which we achieved:
A 300% growth in association membership
Recognition from the United States Congress
Major Breakthrough in Direct Mail Marketing Techniques
A 300% increase in profits
I also developed a complete marketing plan and strategy to build a national
sales force to procure memberships and insurance. This dynamic growth was
augmented through our working with such notables as Art Linkletter, Roy
Rogers, Dale Evans, Stan Musial, Tip O'neal and others who endorsed our
products.
Walt Peabody Advertising Service, Inc.
Assistant to the President/CEO
As Assistant to the President I was responsible for all company operations.
(Finance, Marketing, Management, Research and Development and Production)
In addition, I served as Chief Operations Officer of the three company
subsidiaries, and managed $6,000,000 of rental property and real estate.
On moving from sales to general management, I found that the home office
organization was dangerously ineffective. Controls were loose. Company
objectives undefined, recruiting techniques were weak, training was almost
non-existent and individuals' duties were unclear.
I took immediate action to clarify our company goals and to establish a
clear business plan and organizational structure for achieving them. As
the reorganization proceeded, order replaced confusion and our managers now
had specific duties, responsibilities . . . and performance objectives.
Our business soon reflected those improvements. For example, during my
three years,
1. A new corporate image and advertising program had been launched.
2. Sales increased at an average of 28% a year.
3. Profits quintupled, from $150,000 to $750,000.
4. The sales force increased from 176 to 300.
5. Two major products were introduced, which increased sales 40%.
6. We dramatically raised our cash flow by over 30%.
My previous 10 years were spent in the insurance industry with Wisconsin
National Life Insurance Company as an Account Representative. I learned
the basics of the insurance industry and built my knowledge through the
National Association of Life Underwriters. I completed the Life
Underwriters Training Council Degree in 1967 and earned the designation
LUTC. I also spent 2 years with Time Insurance Company as a supervisor of
policyholder services where I managed a 20-person office providing customer
service.
