Project Staples.com is based on IBM based package solution
(WCS), this has led to higher dependency on that
vendor and code had become monolithic and
inflexible for any new features Vision of this
pilot was to rollout a project built completely on
new stack of open source technologies and
establish new processes for running distributed
agile with multiple vendors. Creation of online
portal where customers can return as item was
identified for this pilot.
In today's world to return an item online, the
customer has to call the customer care, chat with
the customer care reps or download the returns
form and return the item at the nearest Staples
store. When calling or chatting in, the customer
need to answer a set of questions asked by the
customer care reps about the item he/she wants to
return. The customer care reps would inform the
customer of the return policies and the how the
money will be credited back to his account etc.
Customers find this problematic and time consuming
since he/she has to wait for the interaction with
the customer care reps to complete the return
process. Also, the existing process is cumbersome
and requires multiple follow up via emails and
phone calls and discussion with the right customer
care agent to complete the return.
The solution approach is to provide an online
portal for logged in users to initiate an online
return by capturing the necessary information to
process a return for example, Item to be returned,
Reason for return, Quantity of item to be
returned, Confirm pick-up address and email
address. Once the returns are processed, the items
can be returned in three ways:
Shipping it back to Staples.com/CA via the
shipping label sent to the customer
Pick up the item from customer location by a
staples associate.
Return the item at a store.
The online solution also sends email to the
customer about his return, how much money he is
getting back, what are the guidelines for return
etc.

Project Cemafore is a PDM (Product Data Management) tool
where Philips engineers will create, manage
information of consumer end Product. The
information being stored and managed include
engineering data such as CAD models, drawings and
technical specifications, specifications for
manufacture and development, and the types of
materials that are required to produce the end
product. The information is stored in the form of
master data called Article that is identified with
12digit number.
PDM is part of Product Life cycle Management
(PLM), PLM is a strategic business approach that
applies a consistent set of business solutions in
