Ensure the efficient and effective use of staff, workshop facilities

and equipment.

Determine customers’ needs and respond as necessary in accordance

with directions issued on customer care, including booking in

vehicles for maintenance, and repairs

Determine priorities and allocate work to workshop/staff.

Monitor work progress, and pursue as necessary.

Advise on best methods of repair and determine repair times in

consultation with the vehicle manufacturers’ information and

standards.

Ensure service and repair targets are met.

Ensure financial targets are met within own sphere of responsibility,

maintaining minimal stock of parts, authorising orders up to the

prescribed limit.

Ensure all work is carried out within a realistic time.

Inform the Service Manager on revisions to service contents, i.e.

usually relates to the age of the vehicle.

Liaise with the Parts Manager or Service Manager on issues

affecting availability of parts, and to take responsibility for parts

ordering in the absence of a Parts Officer.

Operate the Computerised Workshop Management, ordering and

parts system to aid the following tasks: creation and updating of

job sheets; allocation of work to individual members of staff by

inserting employee numbers; enter start and time finished on

jobs; recording of vehicle downtime; ordering of parts and

equipment against job sheet numbers, receipt of parts and

equipment; transfer of parts and equipment and recording of

labour to jobs.

Ensure adequate cover is provided in the absence of Workshop

personnel and advise the Service Manager if this cannot be

achieved.

Communicate with external repair agencies as necessary.

Cover the duties of the Service Manager in their absence,

particularly regarding maintaining security of the

workshop/buildings.

Insure all unfair wear and tear is identified and liaise with Service

Manager.

Undertake the full range of duties of a multi skilled Mechanic

maintaining / repairing all types of vehicles etc and attend

breakdowns at Depots and on sites.

Record all times and attendance hours to facilitate payment.
