2013-Present

I have a translation firm at 6522 Columbia Pike, Suite 304, Falls

Church, VA 22041, USA. I translated a variety of materials mainly from

Arabic to English. One of my customers is the Pastoralists and

Environmental Network for the Horn of Africa (PENHA).

2010-2013:

Project manager for UNFAO in Afghanistan

I managed the project including budget, logistics and staff.

2000-2009

Consultant with Sudan Environment conservation Society.

Helping with proposal formulation and translation between Arabic and

I participated in management of the Council which coordinated

environmental management among all government agencies involved.

Project Manager

Of UNDP/GEF national capacity self assessment project in

Sudan, with the objective of identifying gaps in capacity to

implement global environmental conventions. I produced reports

in English with Arabic translation.

Oct 2004-June 2005

Consultant for Sudan Environment Conservation Society

I helped in translation of a large amount of materials

including reports and proposals.

May 2003-June 2004:

Chief International Consultant, FAO project: Rehabilitation of

rangeland and the establishment of a wildlife reserve in Syrian.

I managed the project, supervised staff and produced financial,

administrative and scientific reports. We had 10 extension

officers located in villages around the project area. We trained

them and provided them with educational materials. The objective

was to raise environmental awareness and encourage sustainable

use of natural resources. To produce these educational materials

I had to translate all from English to Arabic for the benefit of

the local communities. I carried out interpretation in meetings

between the Government and the UN staff. I also carried out

transcription in these meetings.

Presently: Member of IUCN Commission on Environmental, Economic and social

Policy, and member of IUCN Collaborative Management Working

Group.

Dec. 2000-June 2002:

Chief Technical Adviser, UNOPS Socotra Biodiversity Project.

I managed the three components of the community-based project:

marine, terrestrial, and environmental education and awareness.

We had a significant capacity building program for government

officials, NGOs and local communities. I carried out all

translation from English to Arabic of all project reports, while

translated government letters from Arabic to English for the

benefit of the UN. I summarized project reports in Arabic to use

in memos for the Government. I took part in interpretation in

meetings with the Government as the only Arabic speaker in the

project international staff.

1997- Dec. 2000:

Deputy CTA, and Environmental education and awareness expert,

Socotra UNOPS/UNDP/GEF biodiversity project, Yemen.

As deputy CTA, I participated in management of the project

including financial and administrative aspects. As the

environmental education expert, I planned, initiated and

executed the environmental education and awareness program. We

developed a successful capacity building program that continued

for 5 years and trained over 150 individuals and reached 10,000

villagers and 5000 school children. I developed all the

educational materials for awareness as well as curricula for the

capacity building program, originally the sources are in

English, so I prepared all the materials into Arabic. I

translated all the material from English to Arabic for the

Yemeni participants who only spoke Arabic.

I lead the communication and advocacy team for 5 years. The

objective was to encourage sustainable use and natural resources

and increase environmental awareness among the public. To

produce communication material I had to translate the material

from English to Arabic for the Yemeni population. We produced a

large amount of educational materials including more than 200 A4

posters, brochures, A2 posters, hundreds of fliers, and manuals

for school teachers to use in classrooms. I used PowerPoint

presentations and other visual aids in training.

We provided training for school teachers (171 out of 240),

senior local government officials (30), women (75), elected

local council members (all 35), women (61) and tribal sheiks and

community leaders (62). All training was conducted in Arabic. I

also translated communication between the project and the

Government, and project reports which were originally written in

English and had to be translated into Arabic. I summarized

reports to use in memos produced by the project. In meetings

with donors and UN staff, I was the interpreter.
