EMPLOYMENT:

TRI-CITY MEDICAL CENTER, Oceanside, CA – September 2006 to March 2009

As a Night Shift Coordinator/Supervisor, I was responsible for obtaining blood from in-house patients, with the ability to prioritize STAT draws and Timed draws. I supervised employees on the night shift, making sure that they were following proper procedures, receiving adequate break times, and assisted with “difficult sticks.” Since the “morning run” was a timed priority, I made sure the run was organized and timely and distributed patient draws to other Phlebotomists from both the day and night shifts. Obtained

blood from patients in Intensive Care, Telemetry and Med/Surg, Neonatal Intensive Care, as well as babies in the OB Section. As a collateral duty, I took monthly meeting minutes for the night shift. Typed up the final copy for distribution to the Phlebotomy Supervisor and the other night shift Phlebotomists. Since we were without a “Lead” Phlebotomist, I performed all night shift supervisor duties for several months. I was assigned to the Emergency Room as a Phlebotomist a few nights a week when not working as the Lead or Coordinator.

SAN MARCOS HEALTHCARE LEARNING CENTER, San Marcos, CA – June 2008 to March 2009

As Lead Phlebotomy Instructor, I taught hands-on phlebotomy techniques to LVN students under the direction of the owner, Jayson Remigil, RN. Students were taught how to successfully obtain blood using a vacutainer, a syringe and a butterfly. Students were split up into groups and were able to practice on mannequins and, when comfortable, practice on each other. The students also had the opportunity to ask any questions they had. I taught as much information as I could in the time allotted. The Phlebotomy portion was an important aspect of this course since the LVN students came to the class in order to become “IV Certified.”

TRI-CITY MEDICAL CENTER, Oceanside, CA – October 2003 to May 2004

I was assigned to Work Partners in Vista. I learned numerous amounts of information about the Workers’ Compensation Program. I assisted everyone in the office with various projects. I also assisted with urine drug screens. On a routine basis, assisted with the Insurance Status Line to ensure that insurance companies got requested patient information in a timely fashion. Was also responsible for all dictations to ensure that they were signed by the physician and charted in the correct patient’s chart, as well as being submitted to the correct insurance company. Assisted the Front Office Assistant by giving out proper forms and instructed patients with correct procedures for completing the forms.

TRI-CITY MEDICAL CENTER, Oceanside, CA – December 2000 to October 2003

I worked as a Patient Service Technician, taught the hospital’s computer program to all new hires, and also worked as a “Patient Sitter” in a “Nursing Assistant” capacity (I am a trained Medical Assistant/Phlebotomist). As a Patient Service Technician, I acted as the central source of information for physicians, staff, patients and visitors. Maintained excellent computer skills to ensure that correct policies and procedures, labs, meals, supplies, and scheduled exams were obtained at the correct time, on the correct patient, and in an efficient manner. Maintained an inventory of supplies and forms on a regular basis. Also, prepared patient charts, medication sheets, audit forms, etc. Consistently updated records, which included patient’s allergies and medical histories, and proper diets. Supervised and trained many ROP students, without creating conflict at busy times. I taught a little portion of every aspect of the Patient Service Technician position as time allowed. As a Patient Sitter, was directly involved in one-on-one with patient care. Duties varied according to the patient’s condition.

As the Hospital’s Computer Course Instructor, instructed hundreds of newly hired employees in the proper technique for using the hospital’s computer program. Worked independently and prepared all classroom reference materials.
