Accomplished R&D professional with over 30 years’ experience leading technical teams solving complex
scientific and engineering problems. Secured funding support from government and private sources, proposed
and completed experimental programs at national and international laboratories. Developed and utilized cutting
edge technology and algorithms leading to the publication of more than 100 papers and 8 patents. Quality
assurance of state of the art hardware utilizing calibration and data reduction techniques. Manipulation of large
data (data scientist) sets to extract physical measurements. Designed, simulated and constructed multiple
devices to measure the passage of particles and radiation. Conceived and created commercial products in
collaborative (agile) organization.
P ROFESSIONAL E XPERIENCE
2008 2015 • Physicist and Technical Lead, detection and imaging algorithms
Decision Sciences International Corporation, Poway, CA: Provider of detection and imaging technology for
homeland security.
Led a team that took a fully functional cargo inspection system from conception to completion
Selected accomplishments:
• Spearheaded the effort to increase system sensitivity by almost 50%
• Helped organize a prototype demonstration for the United States government that was attended
by many foreign dignitaries
• Published 2 journal articles on material detection and classification.
• Developed and tested algorithms and created working C++ code that was adopted into the
released software.
• Verified through analytics and reduction of large data sets (1 Gigabyte/minute) that the detector,
electronics and software were functioning optimally for successful cargo screening.
• Eight patents covering the product development.
1979 2008 • Professor of Physics
University of South Carolina, Columbia, SC: Higher education institution.
