P EXPERIENCE
ROFESSIONAL
2008 to Present: Northrop Grumman/ Huntington Ingalls-Newport News Shipbuilding, Newport News, VA
Mechanical Designer – CVN78 Program
Perform as an experienced mechanical designer for Newport News Shipbuilding that primarily builds and
maintenances aircraft carriers for the U.S. Navy. Manage all aspects of test equipment construction that tests the
auxiliary and propulsion systems for each carrier with cost values up to $100K per project.
• Complete sketch designs and build schematics for testing equipment, research the c omponents needed to ensure
component compatibility while meeting each project’s criteria.
• Collaborate with testing engineers to ensure complete compliance and utilize AutoCAD to construct the design
build, keeping in constant communications with construct ion department to assist in resolving noted issues and
compliance following ASME Y14.5 standards.
• Provide field technical support to the construction trades and supervision to ensure installations are performed in
accordance with project specific design documents, procedures, national codes and standards.
• Generate engineering incident reports to address design related and technical issues. Provide resolutions and
coordinate implementation.
• Review design changes for constructability, technical compliance and construc tion impacts. Revise applicable
construction drawings to ensure proper execution of changes.
• Improve product design through direct modification of existing designs, complete studies, calculate and prepare
original rough layouts, coordinate design criteria, with working knowledge of GD&T, ASME ^14.5, and ISO 9001.
• Interface and coordinate with the trades and supervision to correct deficient items identified on propulsion plant
test piping systems and ensure these items are completed in accordance with procedures.
• Interface with Quality Inspection Department for final completion and acceptance of the propulsion plant test
piping systems.
• Perform final inspections of the piping systems and document completion acceptance in accordance with
approved project procedures.

2007 to 2008: Kraft Foods, Suffolk, VA – Process Technician / Planters Peanut Division
Managed all facets of manufacturing machinery and cycle times for the food packaging systems that packaged a high
volume of nuts and tested the end product to ascertain and maintain quality assurance standards. Ensured complete
maintenance for all equipment and provided critical setup for each manufacturing “run”.
• Streamlined the packaging process utilizing data to assist in machine alignment that ensured less waste
production, resulted in an annual savings of over $280K.
• Poised and professional in deadline-driven manufacturing environments and provided critical emergency
response to production line packaging issues.
• Provided key recommendation on new machines that would facilitate greater manufacturing performance and
was actively involved in testing new lines and systems and providing critical data which translated to significant
performance and cost savings opportunities.
• Completed quality assessments of plant-wide operations and ensured in-process and finished goods testing met
all corporate and QA standards.
• Actively participated and fostered a strong performance culture and continuous improvement programs that
included QCDSM and plant productivity.
• Promoted a strong safety conscience working environment and participated in (KSRMP) safety, (KEMS)
environmental policies and compliance with all QCMS programs that included HACCP and GMPs.
1997 to 2006: Huntsman/Nova Chemicals, Chesapeake, VA – Senior Process Technician
Began tenure as a Technician and promoted to provide additional leadership in completion of manufacturing
operations of Continuous High Impact Polystyrene Process (C.H.I.P.S) for plastic pellets for injection molding
companies with accounts that included Solo Cups, Dial, Igloo, and various other molding companies.
Made appropriate adjustments to meet safety, quality and environmental requirements. Tend equipment or
semi-automatic system that processes chemical substances into industrial intermediate and finished products.
Conferred with peers, technical and supervisory personnel to report or resolve conditions affecting safety,
efficiency and product quality. Troubleshooting equipment problems and process upsets.
Feed specified amounts of materials into vessels or tanks; and turn valves to feed liquid and gaseous materials
through equipment units; or set controls in specified sequence on controls to start automatic feed.
Turned valves or move controls to maintain system at specified temperature, pressure, and vacuum levels.
Observed chemical reactions; monitor gauges, signals, and recorders; and receive notification by
intercommunications to make specified operating adjustments on such equipment as pump s, compressors,
reactors, distillation columns, heat exchangers, etc.
Drew samples of products and perform simple laboratory analysis. Maintain log of gauge re adings and shift
production.
Made repeated trips through the entire plant area to visually inspec t equipment for leaks and hazards and to
record gauge readings.
Prepared equipment safely for maintenance work and assist maintenance personnel in plant repairs including
removing and installing valves, pumps, control units, etc. Assistance includes pulli ng, pushing, lifting, carrying
parts, equipment and tools. Use appropriate tools to properly open, close, remove and secure items.
Installed and removed piping systems, cut-off valves, etc., as required, using proper tools.
Assisted in Emergency Response situations.
Performed Job Tasks as outlined in SOPs.
Performed quality-related jobs as indicated in the Quality Procedures Documents of the Unit.
Performed truck loading and unloading operations.
Operated process using Honeywell based DCS and troubleshoot using PI data historian.
Assisted in performing safety reviews, safety audits, incident investigations, and safety suggestions. Ability to
read and interpret P&IDs.
