Education;
California State University, Sacramento:
Bachelor of Science in Nursing - Spring 1997
Kaiser Permanente

Manager: Christopher Good

ambulatory. I work with patients during their intaking process preparation for surgical
procedure; making sure there paperwork was current and ensuring they had appropriate
size IV and they vital signs are good for surgery.
Also recovered the same people.
Registered Nurse (10/15/2000 to 2/10/2012)
Manager: Brandie Cherry
Emergency Room. Work with a variety of patients providing them with comprehensive
care according to there complaint. Nothing short of IV starts, vital signs recording, and a

California Shock Trauma Air Rescue (CALSTAR)
Flight Nurse (3/18/2002 to 12/31/2010)
Chief Flight Nurse: Robert Griffith
CALSTAR provides comprehensive critical care transport service available 24 hours a
day 7 days a week. I am responsible for transporting patients of all ages in response to
the 911 emergency medical services (EMS). Responsibilities include management of
patient airway in emergent situations and life saving procedures. Also, management of
critically ill patients of all ages needing emergent interfacility transfer from outlying
hospitals to a higher level care.
I developed an in-service training (IST) calendar for CALSTAR 6 region. The calendar
outlined bi-annual IST’s. One IST was scheduled in the spring with local fire agencies in
Lake Tahoe area to include parts of Nevada. The second IST was scheduled in the late
fall with the same agencies as the spring IST and to include the ski patrollers of the Lake
Tahoe ski resorts. The IST information was developed by CALSTAR prior to my hire
date.
I participate in community education for the public and for other EMS providers. As a
CALSTAR Flight Nurse, I provide education for the public by participating in local
events displaying the helicopter and interacting with the public. CALSTAR Flight Nurses
also provide education for other EMS providers by participating in inservice training
which includes information about helicopter safety, aircraft capabilities, patient care, and
patient packaging. I also developed and provided a class on the subject of burns, in
conjunction with UCDMC Burn Center, for the Tahoe region First Responders,
Emergency Room, and ICU nurses.
I am responsible for helmet inventory and maintenance for CALSTAR 1 & 8 bases. I
requested and received approval to upgrade the SPH5 helmets with a passive noise
attenuation system. This provides greater comfort and enhanced safety. The upgrade was
adopted as a uniform policy revision to provide all employees the ability to upgrade their
helmets. I also assembled and maintain a tool box with extras parts for SPH 5 helmets at
CALSTAR 1 & 8.
I wrote one of two articles regarding “Search for Emery” that were presented in Rotor
Wash (CALSTAR publication). Emery is a child that became lost in the Tahoe
wilderness for greater than 12 hours over night while camping with an inter-city youth
group from Oakland. The article was a case review which highlighted an inter-agency
collaborative search to locate and rescue Emery.
I initiated discussions in 2005 with Kaiser Permanente Anesthesia Group in Sacramento
to develop an education contract. The contract allowed flight nurses to the opportunity to
accompany the anesthesia providers in the operating room and perform intubations on
pts. The contract has been expanded to involve the Pediatric Anesthesia Group.
I also held the position of Base Safety Representative with responsibilities to work with
the Regional Safety Manager regarding OSHA compliance, CAMTS (Commission on
Accreditation of Medical Transport System) accreditation and CRM (Crew Resource
management). Focus included OSHA compliance as stated in federal regulation to ensure
a comfortable and accident free work environment, CAMTS compliance aimed to
improve the transport environment for patient care and safety, and CRM for improved
communication in the transport setting for enhanced safety.
I also held the position of Regional Safety Manager working directly with the CEO of
CALSTAR to enhance the company safety program. As Regional Safety Manager I was
responsible for scheduling the monthly Safety Management Team meetings and the
quarterly Safety Council meetings (Base Safety Representatives, Regional Safety
Managers, CALSTAR Lead Pilot, Director of Flight Operations, the CEO and other
department personnel), and developing the agenda and the minutes for each meeting. I
worked in conjunction with my regions base representatives to ensure all inspections
were complete and all CRM education was current. As a special project I was lead person
in developing a CRM Safety Stand Down program that was presented to all 11 bases.
