DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES
. Well experienced in critical care and surgical nursing.
. Set up, operate or monitor invasive equipment and devices including
colostomy or tracheotomy equipment, mechanical ventilators, pacing
wires, intercostal drainage, gastrointestinal tubes and central lines.
. Operate heart monitors, EKG machines and pacemakers and educate
patients on heart diseases risk factors and the health benefits of
diet and exercise.
. Manage patients' pain relief and sedation by providing pharmacologic
and non-pharmacologic interventions, monitoring patient's responses
and changing care plans accordingly.
. Closely monitor patients receiving epidural analgesia focussing on
safe administration, pain intensity, sedation score and identifying
and managing adverse reactions or complications.
. Cared patients on ionotropic supports, PCA, sedative-analgesics-
hypnotic-anaesthetics, mechanical ventilation, blood products.
. Monitor telemetry and respond to calls and emergent, life-saving
situations.
. Administer blood and blood product transfusion or intravenous
infusions, monitoring patients for adverse reactions.
. Observe behaviour and symptoms and report changes to on-call
physicians.
. Collaborate with patients to plan for future health care needs or to
coordinate transitions and referrals.
. Helps patients return to their highest level of functioning and also
provide dignity and respect in end-of-life decision making and care.
