Work Experience:
HGST, a Western Digital Company, Boulder, CO March 2013 - December 2014
. Principal Engineer, Mechanical Product Design
Design various product components for advanced hard disk drives. Components
utilize: Plastic injection molding, metal insert over molding, progressive
die stamping/forming, die cutting, machining and extrusions. Responsible
for part development from concept to high volume mass production with
released documentation. Testing and qualification of components and systems
including lab set up and fixture development. Actively participate in
design reviews and cross functional teams. Continually strive to improve
components and reduce costs.
WD, a Western Digital Company, Longmont, CO November 2008 - February 2013
. Sr. Principal Engineer, Mechanical Product Design
Design various product components for advanced hard disk drives. Components
utilize: Plastic injection molding, metal insert over molding, progressive
die stamping/forming, die cutting, machining and extrusions. Responsible
for part development from concept to high volume mass production with
released documentation. Testing and qualification of components and systems
including lab set up and fixture development. Perform FA on factory drives
with mechanical issues. Actively participate in design reviews and cross
functional teams. Patents awarded for Spherical Balance Plug, Disk Clamp
with Annular Ring and Shipping comb for Head Stack Assembly.
InPhase Technologies Inc, Longmont, CO December 2006 - May 2008
. Sr. Mechanical Engineer, Production Tool Designer
Design tooling for holographic storage device. Responsible for production
tool development and maintenance including: Mechanical drive tools
containing five-axis motion with micron/arc second resolution. Product
interface involved vacuum, magnetic and clamping. Create kinematic mounting
systems for manufacturing tooling and products. Developed media tape seal
machine with zero edge overlap. Design solutions incorporate: conceive,
design, document, fabricate, assemble and qualify cost-effective tooling
for production. Participated in product design reviews to ensure
manufacturability and assisted in resolving issues with mechanical product
assemblies.
Cornice Inc, Longmont, CO November 2004 - December 2006
. Staff Mechanical Engineer, Test/Process Engineering
Design test equipment and manufacturing tooling for hard disk drives.
Responsible for all mechanical development of Certify-Verify process test
equipment such as: injection molded fixtures, PCB/FPC geometry,
tester/product electrical interface, environmental and altitude chamber
reliable fixtures. Station design reduced slot cost 3X, increased rack
density 3X and increased throughput from batch mode to individual slot
testing. Manufacturing tooling included: latch and liner install, product
combs and static attitude fixtures. All successful designs involve cost-
effectiveness, completed within assigned timelines, qualified, and released
documentation.
Maxtor Corporation, Longmont, CO January 1992 - October 2004
. Sr. Staff Mechanical Engineer, Advanced Manufacturing Engineering
Design and process lead for advanced technologies to achieve production
targets internally and with suppliers. Evaluate all phases of product
design to develop clean room volume processes while ensuring product
integrity. Extensive DFM and FA experience with product design team.
Analyze supplier production worldwide and provide solutions when critical
requirements were not fulfilled. Provide SPC of internal and external
product metrology. Generate detailed tool development schedules and
complete within required timeframes. Successful designs include: cost-
effectiveness, cleanliness, ESD compliance and tool tack time. Conceive,
design, document, fabricate, assemble and qualify production tooling.
