Professional Profile
BB. “Become Better.” The month after my 22nd birthday the course of my life changed forever. I was working an internship at an accounting firm before I started graduate school and one day, a client accidentally leaves behind an article. It was a 2008 North American Employee Engagement Study. What were the highlights? 29% of workforce is fully engaged. 51% is “merely going through the motions” and 19% were actively disengaged and counter- productive to their PROFESSION! Why is this happening? What caused this? Sleep never came that night; I couldn’t get over how this could possibly be the case. I spent all night searching for anything I could find to refute the claims this article made; or at least find that someone had developed a solution to this horrendous problem facing what is supposed to be the most important asset any organization can have. I found nothing. That was when I devoted my life to finding an answer to this question, “How can we become better at managing and developing the people working for us?” Let me be very clear: we, as a society, need to become better…..we have to become better….and if I can contribute even just a small piece to that answer, it will be a career well spent.
