Assistant Director for Information Technology/Instructional Technologists 2004 - Present

School of Management and Labor Relations

As Assistant Director for Information Technology at the School of Management and Labor Relations, I am responsible for every aspect of technology within the school. My key duties included the management of 10 full and part time IT staff providing end-user technical support for faculty, staff, and graduate students (over 300 people), including computer installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting. Administration of three physical locations interconnected with 130 nodes including their networking hardware including Cisco routers, SonicWall firewalls, SonicWall SSL-VPN, 12 Windows servers and VOIP management. The network implementation includes windows active directory services used mainly to share file and printing resources. The servers among other things run Exchange Server 2010, application for managing large document stores, application for managing the cost of printing. Along with managing all the devices on the network I am also responsible for network troubleshooting and issue resolutions using networking tools. I am also responsible for managing projects necessary for enhancing all technology within the school including wireless access points, instructional technology including video capture, video conferencing and other classroom technology. Communicated with chairs, directors, and departmental administrators to assess technology needs for the school.

As Instructional Technologist I provided leadership related to pedagogical and technology support for instruction and for assessment of student learning. Worked with faculty, program directors, department chairs, deans, and university administrators in the areas of curriculum, instruction, and assessment at the undergraduate and graduate levels. I was charged with helping to assure that the highest standards of instruction are met, that instructional technology and distance learning are used well and appropriately, and help the department conduct rigorous assessment of its curriculum, instruction, and student learning outcomes.

Division of Intercollegiate Athletics 2000 – 2004

As Unit Computing Manager I was responsible for engineering and rolling out a complete technology infrastructure for the Rutgers University Division of Intercollegiate Athletics (27 sports programs and their support staff ~ 400 people) across 5 physical locations. Consolidated 28 various servers into 16 by removing redundant software and services. Installed Windows servers and retired Novell servers that were no longer viable for the growing needs of the department. Oversaw the installation and configuration of new Cisco routers for the division including the network build out for the Rutgers Football Stadium and the Rutgers Athletic Center. In this role I was responsible for designing the network infrastructure of 3 new computer labs with 150 Windows PCs for student athletes as well as the management of the computer labs.

•Engineered and implemented MS Windows infrastructure for the Rutgers University Division of Intercollegiate Athletics (27 sports programs and their support staff ~ 400 people) across 5 physical locations. Consolidated 28 various servers into 16 by removing redundant software and services.

•Installed and configured wireless access points for media access at Rutgers Stadium and the Rutgers Athletic Center first large scale roll out of this technology at the University.

•Designed, implemented and staffed 3 Computer labs with over 150 computers for students.

•Documented and planned disaster recovery for systems, including off-site tape storage

•Directed IT staff of seven part time and 5 full time team members to develop and implement all projects including SQL Microsoft databases, Exchange Server, Cisco firewalls, Intranet, network area storage devices, and standardized hardware and software.

Explored different ways to teach students that provides the most benefit to them. I have redesigned the course structure and utilized new material to keep the course relevant to the changing world of Social Media. I have taught this course as a hybrid course that meets once a week and once online, which utilized the "flipped classroom" model where students learn the material on their own and then the instructor reviews and reinforces the learning during face-to-face sessions.
