RTOS environment, or as project manager writing requirements, design
documents and scheduling project tasks.
. Product development: Developed products based on embedded
microprocessors, microcontrollers and digital signal processors operating

. Real-time firmware, software and hardware: Hands-on design, debug, and
unit test using C, C++, MFC, Basic and assembly in Windows or other
embedded microprocessor environment.
. Embedded software design experience: motion control, medical electronics,
data acquisition, telephony, instrumentation, marine, games and consumer
products.
. Software design: Involved in upper-level control logic, mid-level logic,
and low-level device drivers, as well as, diagnostics and test utilities.
. Product design: Designs that consider market requirements and MTBF
analysis to assure many generations of sustained sales and convenient
upgrade.
. Government clearance: Inactive secret clearance. Last active in 6/2008
Achievements
. Improved the attitude and performance of an entire group at Draper by
creating a success oriented strategy that had the endorsement of the
group.
. Identified the root cause of a problem with the Affymetrix Fluidics
Station after launch of a GeneChip that was critical to company sales.
That work enabled Affymetrix to continue its critical GeneChip offering
and generate revenue in excess of $100M without recalling the new
GeneChip.
. Received great performance reviews over many years and many projects.
. Defined, designed and launched many new products for companies and
divisions while a consultant at Barsook & Brisk, Inc, the firm I founded
and ran for over 15 years.
Professional Experience Software Engineer 7/2010
to present
. Kopin Corp (contract) Hands-on design and debug of C code in an STM
environment 4/2015 - present
. Cyient Consulting Co.(full time): Worked at AS&E to create a product
emulator on a PC, using C#/C++ code. 12/2013 - 4/2015
. Philips Life Line: (contract) Worked as part of a V&V team on a new
product release. 7/13 - 11/13
. Beltronics, Inc. (contract) Hands-on design and debug of C/C++ in a MIPS
processor. 7/10 to 5/31/2013
Used JTAG and SVN as part of a 3 man team developing an
optical/mechanical/electronic/software-based IC inspection system. Also
worked with inventor to develop a PC-based optical/electronic medical
instrument for measuring the eye with a low power laser sensor. Helped
design and test subsystem pieces ranging from commercial devices to custom
designs controlled by C++ and C# code on a Windows platform.
EMC Corporation Software Engineer Southborough, MA 9/08 to
6/10
Software engineer engaged in hands-on design, debug of software for
CLARiiON system in C/C++.
Draper Laboratory Software Lead Engineer Cambridge, MA
2007 to 7/08
Lead a group of engineers and analysts to develop and implement a plan for
inertial guidance test SW on a new guidance system. Set strategy,
schedules and assignments to insure maintainability thru 2042
Affymetrix, Inc. Software Engineer Bedford, MA
2002 to 2007
Worked in the, now closed, Instrument Division of a biology-based company.
Served as a member of the software design group writing C, C++, MFC. Helped
develop precision equipment to prepare and read the genetic information
from Affymetrix GeneChips .
FS450 Fluidics Station: Responsible for modification of 8051 embedded
"C" software and custom scripts used to develop, stabilize and fix genetic
information on a GeneChip cartridge.
GCS3000 Gene Chip Scanner: Part of a team that developed C/C++
software, running under vxWorks/Tornado, for 4 generations on three
different platforms of opto-mechanical scanners to read the photo
luminescent information on a GeneChip. This is a leading edge product that
won a prize as one of the best product designs in 2005.
Diagnostic testing. Wrote diagnostic applets in MFC and C++ to test
various modules in the GCS300.
Personal System Scanner: Helped develop the layers of C/C++ software,
below the GUI layer, needed to drive a low cost CCD scanner.
iQ Net Solutions, Inc. Software Engineer Westborough, MA
2000 - 2002
A defunct startup company developing peer-to-peer distributed telephony
system that interfaced standard telephones to CO lines, voicemail and
background music software over CAT5 cable. The embedded telephony system
was in "C" and assembly on an ARM processor; and accounting system was in
C++. Wrote, debugged and customized the embedded software to meet the
market specification until the company halted operations.
Bose Corporation Embedded Software Engineer Framingham,
MA 1999 - 2000
Worked on the Bose DVD-based home theater system designed to run on a TMS
DSP. Helped define the product architecture that would run on a 32-bit
MIPS processor to implement the user interface.
Raytheon Company Senior Software Engineer Marlborough, MA
1997 - 1999
Lead software engineer for portable encrypted 64-channel satellite-to-
ground communication system. Co-wrote product specification. Structured
system hardware and firmware. Did hands-on coding and debugging of
system's real time ?P controller and oversaw TMS DSP channel coordination
code.
Defined, wrote and debugged C code firmware for precision clock
distribution system that synchronized local clock in remote hub to best
choice from among a remote atomic clock, a local rubidium standard, and
three local oscillators. Developed and implemented the choice and
optimization algorithms to meet severe requirements.
Contracting and other short term situations
1994 - 1997
Specialized in companies experiencing technical and market challenges.
. Wrote firmware drivers for the serial and parallel ports on a print
server. The code included C
and assembly compiled for an ARM/MIPS processor. The system operated under
a custom, non-preemptive RTOS running on the ARM in an ASIC that included
the I/O and memory.
. Wafer Transport System in clean room environment: Wrote firmware for
controlling wafer transport
system for moving wafers in clean room. System ran C++ code on STD
hardware under an RTOS.
. Wrote custom drivers to interface System BIOS code to a 'smart battery'
?P for use in state-of-the-art lap top computer.
Barsook & Brisk, Inc., Design Consultants Founder Wayland, MA
1976 - 1994
A high-tech consulting firm that operated as design facility for variety of
companies in different industries. Projects involved helping clients'
marketing departments define product, then do the hands-on D&D work
