WORK EXPERIENCE
It has been an amazing journey both as a person and as an artist. I have been very fortunate to work on some incredible
projects with equally impressive and wonderful people. Read on to gain a peek into the journey I've taken.
1995-1996
Company: Radio Shack
Position: Sales Associate
On my first day at work, I had the highest sales per customer ratio in the entire store due to the sale of high ticket items
despite having little product knowledge. Over the months that followed, I was able to cultivate a loyal base of return
customers that, for the most part, tend to purchase high-end items. The main reason for this is the fact that I am always
honest with my clients. I may not always sell them the most expensive items, but I always do recommend the items they
need the most.
1996-1997
Company: Toon-Us-In Animation
Position: Layout Supervisor
Before starting at Toon-Us-In, I had a choice. I can either complete a set of tests to keep working at Radio Shack, or I can
spend the time creating my portfolio and apply for a job in animation. One was guaranteed employment, and the other was
a long shot. I took the long shot, and started out as a regular layout artist working on my first animation show called
"Captain Simian and the Space Monkeys." After six months of working under extreme deadlines and quality control
checking, I was promoted to Layout Supervisor. I was head of the layout department, in charge of about 20 artists, reporting
directly to the director. My stint as a layout supervisor has led me to work on other shows such as The Simpsons, Dot and
Spot's Christmas Special, and the pilot for the hit show King of the Hill.
1997-1999
Company -Innertainment/The Character Lab
Position - Freelance Artist
For about a year, I was able to secure work as a character and game concept designer for Dr. Robert Reiher and Dr. Dan
Acuff. These two wonderful individuals are consultants who are employed by companies to analyze their children's product
lines. They are also often asked to come up with design directions on occasion. This is where I come in. I am humbled to
be a part of the team that eventually came up with the design for the M&M characters that are popular today. I was also
tasked to re-create the penguin character for the Kid Cuisine food product line which became the most popular kid's lunch
pack for several years.
1997-1999
Company: Klasky Csupo Animation
Position: Layout Artist
I was recruited to work for a short stint as a storyboard artist for the movie, "The Rugrats Movie." Once we had finished out
part, the Layout Supervisor asked me to join his team of layout artists. This turned out to be my highest profile project to
date. Our job was to take the storyboards that were handed to us, and separate the scene into layers. The characters would
be drawn on a piece of paper, while the backgrounds, the overlays and underlays, would each have their own layer. These
pencil drawings are what the viewer would see on screen, prior to the in-between animation and coloring. Suffice to say, the
movie became a huge hit and subsequently spawned several sequels.
1999-2001
Company: Adler Graphics Printing
Position: Graphic Designer
Working at Adler was a challenge. However, it did provide for me the tools to tackle just about any project given a
minimum of tools. The program we had to use at the time was Corel Draw 6. This was the most popular of the drawing
programs back then and the most widely used among printers. During my stint here, I was also able to learn the use of
QuarkXPress, the most popular desktop publishing software at the time. As the sole employee in the graphics department,
my job entailed creating logos, flyers, brochures, and also printing, cutting, and installing signs.
2001-2007
Company: SWEDA, LLC
Position: Graphic Designer
Working at Sweda was my introduction to the fast paced, high stress environment of promotional product sales. Every day,
me and a team of graphic designers were tasked with creating vector illustrations of products in both black and white, and in
color. The black and white product illustrations were used to place the client's logo for production purposes. The color
product illustrations were sent to clients to show them what the final product would look like. Aside from that, we would
also create one page and multi page brochures used by the sales department to bring in new clients and keep our current
clients interested. Due to my excellent communication skills, I was often tasked by the Art Director to construct and write
all communication documents for either the sales people, management, or clients.
2008-2011
Company: Strategic Development Advisors (SDA)
Position: Graphic Designer / Web Designer
Working for SDA, I was finally able to use every skill I learned throughout my career. I was hired to handle everything
graphics and web related. SDA is a relatively new high-end commercial real estate company whose principals came from
CBRE, one of the largest commercial real estate firms in the country. We are often in collaboration with some of the largest
real estate firms and construction companies such as CBRE, Lewis Development, Forspan, Trachman Indevco, and Caruso,
to name a few. Our projects consisted of large, medium to high-end shopping centers stretching from Los Angeles, all the
way to the San Jacinto Valley. The majority of tenants are large multinationals, with a sprinkling of a few local merchants.
Below is a list of some of the work I've done:
• Company Logo
• Company Brochures
• Business Cards
• Letterheads
• Envelopes
• Website
• Project Brochures
• Project Advertising Books
• Project Flyers
• Email Blasts
• Convention Materials
• Convention Backdrop
• Product Photography
• Project Maps
• Vector Illustrations
Despite having left the company in 2011, every single piece of material in use by the company still uses what I designed all
those years ago, including but not limited to, the logo, website, brochures, business cards, etc.
2011-Present
Company: Innertainment
Position: Freelance Character Concept Designer
Over the years, I have worked with Dan and Bob on various projects of varying sizes. The more current projects include
designing characters for all kinds of children advocate companies. I designed a pair of characters named Reggie Veggie and
Judy Fruity. These two characters became the cornerstone of a program meant to help kids and parents eat healthier. I did
another character called Bag Boy for an organization that promotes self-esteem, exercise, and a healthy diet for kids. The
last project for them was a set of super hero characters that embodied the positive traits that needs nurturing in children, as
well as their respective "evil" counterpart villains.
Company: Platinum Studios
Position: Freelance Character Concept Artist/Storyboard Artist
Platinum Studios created the hit graphic novel "Cowboys Vs. Aliens" which was eventually turned into a hit sci-fi movie.
Despite some negative reviews, the company decided to press forward with product development of an animated comic
book. The director of the project, Cheryl Elliot, contacted me to design the background and characters as well as come up
with the initial storyboard to be used for the film. After working for over 70 hours in the span of one work week (5 days), I
was able to submit completed designs and storyboards according to specifications. It was a victory for us in that it was an
almost impossible task, requiring near sleepless nights. In the end, despite our best efforts, the flop of the movie in terms of
sales led Sony Entertainment to pull the funding for Platinum Studios. Although our project never took off, the work we did
was relatively new and untested. Other companies such as Marvel and DC now employ the methods we used on their own
animated graphic novels.
Company: Profiles In Careers
Position: Freelance Graphic/Web Designer
My relationship with Profiles In Careers actually started while working for Adler Graphics. I designed all of their marketing
material: logo, business cards, letterheads, second sheets, memo pads, ledgers, envelopes, etc.
Company: Yeah Buddy Application
Position: Freelance Graphic/Web/ UI Designer
My business partner and I created an iPhone application that can be used to send alerts when in an emergency. There are
four levels of alerts that people can use depending on the urgency of the situation. Each alert has its own dedicated contact
list and will "alert" these people according to the sender's chosen alert status. My job was to design the look and feel of the
application, from the various logo forms, to the utility interface (UI) and user experience (UX) required by the client. These
designs will become the brand identity of the app as well as the company. Consequently, after creating the app, I also
created their website. The style we agreed on is a one-page, parallax style HTML website. The website is responsive, and
works flawlessly on a wide range of desktop resolutions and mobile devices.
