* Graduate Research Assistant Center of Compact and Efficient Fluid Power (CCEFP) 11/2013-Present

Working with Prof. Perry Li on the project - Hydraulic Hybrid Passenger Vehicle that is funded by NSF ;

Fulfill vehicle powertrain dynamic modeling on Simulink, and joystick torque control simulation test;

Implemented a wireless torque sensor on the transmission input shaft for engine torque measurement ;

Executed design and manufacturing of the transmission hydraulic clutch system with the aid of Pro-E ;

Implemented the hydraulic clutch actuation system (Specifically, hydraulic circuit & manifold design,

control logistic and automatic control realization based on MATLAB dSPACE real-time environment) ;

Accomplished hydraulic dynamometer system identification, “virtual vehicle” development and affine

controller implementation on the dynamometer, so that the dyno is enabled to simulate the road resistance

and vehicle inertia in real-time during drive-cycle tests; Develop the control program on xPC Target.

Experimentally tested different hybrid control strategies, also investigated the fuel economy powertrain

efficiency improvement from experiment data ;

Developing the fuel rate measuring system with concept of combing a capacitive sensor and PID control.

* Internship Case New Holland (CNH) Chicago, US 5/2013-8/2013

Assessed the overall efficiency of the Tier 3 PL18 torque converter transmission ;

Created simulation model analyzing efficiency improvement of hydrostatic transmission on this vehicle ;

Explored alternative hydrostatic transmission designs and control strategy, studying the hydraulic motor

and pump efficiency, overall transmission efficiency as well as fuel economy for each design

configuration ;

Designed the initial model of the hydrostatic transmission prototype with Pro/Engineering ;

Gave mid-term and final presentations to platform stakeholders and local management ;

Wrote final report to be delivered before the end of term.

* Research Experience Fluid Power Center in the University of Minnesota 1/2013-5/2013

Formulated the dynamic model for a bipedal walking robot system, and generating the trajectory

animation for a motion cycle;

Simulated the torque at human joints, hence the actuation forces required from the hydraulic actuators ;

Executed the sizing analysis of hydraulic actuators for experiment use to demonstrate the feasibility of

using a transformer as a compact, reasonably efficient and precise means for controlling an actuator
