A Communication and Information Systems Specialist, who developed skills and

understanding of varying Information Technology aspects attained over my 20 year

career with the Royal Canadian Navy, Including Security practices and doctrine, SLA and

developing SOPS for the operation and administration of both Classified and

Unclassified Networks within Canadian Warships and installations on shore.

The following qualifications will be attained in the short term: CCNA, CCNA (Security),

CISSP, Security + and CEHv8. With over 15 years experience in the IT administration

and security realm, I would be able to provide valued leadership and technical guidance

to all I would interact with.

Technology Summary

• Security Technologies: SSH, SSL, Digital certificates, Anti-virus tools (Symantec

Endpoint, PKI, etc.), Firewalls, Cryptography. For the aspect of Security, I would

be responsible for the implementation of policy within the unit and for the

infrastructure.

• Systems: Windows based systems primarily with some Linux training (Solaris,

Domino). Primarily using a windows based platform for the administration of file

and print servers, blade servers and tape back up.

• Networking: LAN, WAN, VPN, VLAN, Routers, Switches, Firewalls TCP IP,

Cloud computing has been introduced over time and I am currently developing a

stronger understanding and use of Cloud.

• Software: MS Office Suite, Adobe, People soft, Putty, WireShark, Nessus, Snort

etc.

• Server Technologies: VMWare, MS Server 2003, 2008 Active Directory, MS

Exchange, Virtual Desktop, Remote Desktop

Professional experience

General Responsibilities over the course of my Military career

• Ensure the timely action taken for virus detection

• Sole point of contact to the Command team for severe issues relating to security

of the Network (Virus, Worms, etc.)

• Managed a team of 5 personnel in the upkeep of all assets, including

accountability and life cycle for over 250 users

• Conducted security awareness training for groups of 200 or more in the

implementation of new policies and procedures

• Responsible for the secure operation of both Classified and Unclassified

Networks.

• Maintain the effectiveness of Mission Critical Systems on the Classified side of

the Network enabling effective communications with Allies

• Policy and Compliance procedures were adhered to and implemented

• Assisted with the development, implementation and enforcement of security

policies in order to remediate external and internal threats to corporate technical

resources.

• Oversight for enforcing Acceptable Use Policies (AUP) in relation to Service

Level Agreements (SLA) with clients.

• Conducted periodic research in order to stay abreast of latest security solutions,

best practices and trends

• Managed critical customer issues in an efficient and timely manner.

• Utilized security tools to support vulnerability assessments such as Nessus and

Snort to name a couple.

• Monitored user/group accounts to ensure minimal (Lease Privilege) access to

network devices, applications, and files.

devices, applications, and files.

• Performed periodic internal audit of user/group accounts.

• Worked closely with outside agencies within DND to assess and rectify high-level

compatibility and network anomalies.

implementation and activation of various network related anomalies.
