THESIS (M.D.): “Outcome And Clinical Spectrum Of Preterm And Term Low Birth Infants In

The Neonatal Period”.

THESIS (DNB.NEONATOLOGY):“Levetiracetam In Neonatal Seizures- A Randomised

Study”.

SOCIAL SERVICE : Worked during high flood of the river Mahanadi,September 2008 at

Marshaghai PHC, Kendrapada district; felt good in sharing the pain and sorrow of my own

people. Attended the camp during the Tsunami attack at madras during my houseman-ship

period. Stimulated me to work for the needy. Health camps, well baby show, school health

visits, teenage day celebration, during my postgraduation.Blood donation camp, slum visit near

Stanley medical during my Community Medicine posting in internship period.Active

participation by being a member in organizing committee in JIPMER –NEOCON.

HOSPITAL TRAINING & WORK PROFILE:

DURING INTERNSHIP: During the 12 months of intenship, I was rotated to work in main

branches namely Medicine,Surgery,Obstetrics &Gynaecology,Community Medicine

&Pediatrics. These postings consisted of OP Clinics,in-patient workup, Consultant ward rounds

& practical exposure to proceduresin surgical theatres.Duringtheis,I acquired certain basic

skills like blood sample collection,IV Cannulation,Bone Marrow Aspiration & Biopsy,Lumbar

puncture,Basic Life Support & CPR,Pleural aspiration &Lymph Node Biopsy.While working in

medical intensive care unit, under able guidance, I developed practical experience, interpretation

of arterial blood gases,managing electrolyte imbalance,diabetic ketoacidosis,common

poisoinings& basics of mechanical ventilation.

DURING MD TRAINING: SCB Medical college,Cuttackis a 400 bedded training hospital. It is

one of the premier tertiary referral centres in Orissa. Our department includes well equipped 12

bedded pediatric intensive care unit,12 bedded neonatal intensive care unit, 30 bedded

transitional care unit and 10 bedded special care neonatal unit.Full time resident post graduate

training not only further strengthened my skills & added confidence to independently manage

pediatric wards, but also supervising & learn to take responsibility of internees. Neonatology

postings helped me to managing neonates on ventilators & gave me experience in performing

delicate procedures like catheterization of umbilical artery & vein. While in picu, I learned to

maintain sick children on ventilators & manage an array of pediatric emergiencies like Status

Epilepticus, Near Drowning,Bleeding Disorders,Congestive Cardiac Failure, Poisoning,

Arrhythmias, Oncological Emergencies,Septicemic Shock,Myocarditis,etc.,

AS A FACULTY (ASSISTANT PROFESSOR): As a faculty in the department of pediatrics,

Pondicherry institute of medical sciences,Pondicherry,I did consultant cover of all general

pediatric wards, learned to carry out out-patient & in-patient activities with a sense of

opportunity &responsibility.I sought every oppurtunity to interact with junior as well as senior

collegues in learning process.Teaching Experience was rich involving undergraduate medical

students, interns,Post graduates, nursing students &paramedicals.Programmes like Symposias,

Quiz Programmes,Clinical Meetings were on regular academic Schedule.During the tenure as

assistant professor, I held various posts, like clinical registrar, chair person for the weekly

clinical meetings and camp organizer.

DURING SUPERSPECIALITY TRAINING: During the DNB Neonatology Training, I

developed confidence along with skills in managing the varied problems of newborns with

meticulous care including minute details for a holistic cure of neonates.I learned about

Managing respiratory problems with skills of safe intubation with premedication, deciding and

administering surfactant with appropriate ventilatoryadjustments, placing intercostal drains and

placing central lines and peripheral arterial cannulations with precise care to skin and

techniques of asepsis. I sharpened my abilities to do lumbar puncture and ventricular tappings

under sonographic guidance.Developed hands on training on neonatal echocardiograms and

neurosonograms. I had the opportunity to attend to labour calls including high risk deliveries

both in house and at other hospitals, which helped me to develop the acumen and readiness to

handle difficult situations demanding immediate decision making and quick life saving actions of

the golden hour with all types of facilities and at times with resource poor situations at other

hospitals.I further developed the skills of decision making and counselling the parents during the

transport calls about 67 long transports (around 200-300 km) and 173 local transports ( around

5-15 km).I further acquired the skills in managing extremely low birth weight babies upto 480

gram and extremely premature babies upto 25 weeks of gestation.

I developed the qualities of patience, hard work & perseverance during the training and

acquired the passion for neonatology with human values of sharing the joy and pain of the

parents and be supportive to them even at odd times.

PERSONAL STATEMENT: After acquiring the post graduate qualification in pediatrics,i.e.,

MD, and superspeciality training in Neonatology, DNB Neonatology, possessing sufficient

related skills & strengths,I look forward to achieve my goal of offering the best to the younger

sufferers particularly the newborns.

AMBITION OF LIFE :

To reduce IMR of my nation through health education and service.

I declare that the above-furnished details are true to the best of my knowledge and belief.
