EXPERIENCE

Research Assistant at UNC Charlotte Spring 2014 -Present

Master’s Thesis: Computational Study of Buried Steel Pipeline Response due to Sudden Ground

Motions

o Conducted a nonlinear analysis of a buried gas pipeline using ABAQUS 6.13

o Studied stress-strain distribution in the pipe in the event of fault with an objective to improve the pipe design in

accordance with ASME code B31.8

o Applications: Design of Underground Oil and Gas Pipelines, Pressure vessels and pump design

Analysis of Failure Mechanisms on APH seals using SEM, EDS and XRD Summer 2014

o Analyzed highly corroded and eroded APH seals under Scanning Electron Microscope and Light Optical

Microscope to capture its failure mechanism

o Recommended new materials for air preheater seals to a company (confidential) to manufacture new seals for a

power plant

o Performed EDS to identify the elements present in the deposits and the results were validated by XRD

Teaching Assistant for Finite Element Analysis, UNC Charlotte Spring 2014 -Present

o Assisted for a class of more than thirty students; Experienced with highly complex FEA problems

o Built and analyzed different load-cells, multilayered cylinder, turbine blade, bridge, heat sinks, etc.

Structural analysis of a front axle of a tractor using ANSYS workbench

o Analyzed stresses in a drop test of an front axle of a tractor using FEA

o Suggested a cost-effective design: Reduced weight by 9.5%; and Manufacturing requires less welding

o Studied New Product Introduction (NPI) process

PATENT

Attachment to Control the Tire Pressure in a Vehicle (India Patent Application 1580/mum/2013)

Designed an attachment to control tire pressure which maintains it at optimum value to increase the stability and

efficiency of the tire during normal driving condition. A piston -cylinder assembly was used in a different way to

create a leak proof joint which served as the core of this innovation. The device was modeled, designed,

manufactured and operated with a successful trial.

PROJECTS

Comparison of Mohr Coulomb and Drucker Prager Strength Criteria using FEA

Analyzed the response of a constrained soil medium using ABAQUS 6.13. The constitutive models used were

Drucker-Prager and Mohr-Coulomb material model. The result was compared and verified with the literature

available.

Analysis of the Hardening Behavior of a Bar

Investigate Isotropic, Kinematic and Combined hardening laws in plasticity in the context of a uniaxial loadin g of

a bar, using ABAQUS 6.13.

Transient Thermal Analysis of a Composite Material

Studied quenching of the steel bar placed on a ceramic base. Keeping the computational aspect in mind, the

MATLAB code was written to get the solution and obtain contour plots of temperatures and fluxes in the

material.

Review on Tension Instability in SPH

Tension instability in SPH was studied using ABAQUS 6.13. Clinging behavior, kernel function, smoothing

length and all the other control factors were analyzed with different methods of generating SPH particles. The

mathematics behind the instability was also discussed with the remedies on it.

EXTRACURRICULAR

o Acted as a lead actor in a regional movie ‘Maatimaay’ and nominated for the best child actor award 2007

o Nominated for the Outstanding Graduate Teaching Assistant Award (Spring 15)

o Won Graduate Teaching Assistant Award (Fall 14)

o Completed courses such as ‘Writing in sciences’ and ‘Advances in writing’ from Stanford Online

o Interested in running, acting and swimming
