INDUSTRY
EXPERIENCE Sensata Technologies, Attleboro, MA; Aug. 2012- present
Senior Design Engineer, Responsible for all aspects of Eddy
Current Speed Sensors for automotive and heavy engine
industry application. This includes mechanical design,
analysis, BOM, authorizing purchased parts, build and
testing. Direct contact with engineering staff at customer
sites, weekly status reports, utilizes SolidWorks 2013
CAD/CAE system to create solid models to design and analyze
sensor components and interaction with engine environment.
Develops processes and process specs for thin magnetic wire
winding on bobbins, high temperature plastic molding (PEEK,
LCP, Extem), welding for high temperature applications, heat
staking plastic components, program of microprocessors for
embedded system. Responsible for all aspects of sample
builds and managing the sample build line. DVP&R for
prototype parts. ECOs, DFMEA, PFMEA, FA. Coordinating
activities with make sites in China and Mexico. Creates
detailed manufacturing and assembly drawings IAW ANSY Y 14.5
and utilizes GD&T extensively to ensure part fit and function
and interchangeability.
SEACORP, Middletown, RI; Feb. 2009- Aug. 2012
Lead Mechanical Engineer, Responsible for all aspects of new
product development for underwater launcher systems. This
includes mechanical design, analysis, BOM, authorizing
purchased parts, build and testing. On a daily basis,
utilizes SolidWorks 2011 CAD/CAE system to create solid
models to assist in the design and analysis of mechanical
components as well as electrical packaging. Creates detailed
manufacturing and assembly drawings. Analyzes assembly
kinematics for various articulating mechanisms in mechanical
assemblies. Also, as task manager, has complete oversight of
electrical design, embedded software and completed system
validation testing. Responsible for generating project POA&M
and adherence to milestones and budget. Generates test plans
and test reports, proposals, and customer updates.
EATON Corp., Warwick, RI; Sept. 1997- Feb 2009
Engineering Manager, Responsible for sustaining engineering,
NPD, test lab, met lab, tooling department and design
documentation control departments. Oversaw $4M+ engineering
budget of which 25% was for NPD. Managed design,
development, and testing of dynamic seals and welded metal
bellows devices. Dynamic seals included brush seals; bellows
face seals; radial carbon seals; and axial carbon seals for
aerospace, DOD, NASA, power gen., and electronic industry
applications. Prior to promotion to Engineering Manager
position was NPD manager for 4 years and prior to that senior
design engineer. Utilized Pro/E to create models of
mechanical seals for fitment analysis and for generating
manufacturing drawings and method sheets IAW ANSI Y 14.5, as
well as importing models into ANSYS FEA software for
mechanical and thermal load analysis and optimization.
Routinely utilized GD&T for tolerance stack up analysis and
to ensure part fit and function. Regularly interacted with
customers to determine performance requirements, provide
project status updates, and review test results. Traveled
extensively in the US and overseas. Completed six sigma
training and is a certified green belt.
Analysis and Technology, Inc., Middletown, RI; Sept. 1991-Sept. 1997
Mechanical Engineer, Performed mechanical design and analysis
of components for implementation into submarine and surface
ship systems and their ancillary equipment. This included
electronic enclosures, hydraulic and pneumatic systems,
propulsion systems and mechanical systems. Routinely
performed tolerance stack up analysis (GD&T) IAW ANSI Y 14.5
on new designs and existing designs for troubleshooting NAVY
field issues. Coordinated projects with other mechanical
engineers, electrical engineers and design staff and
participated as a member of project teams. Produced
engineering portions of proposal packages for government
contracts. Coordinated manufacturing projects with machine
shops and other vendors.
Ocean Technology, Inc., Middletown, RI; June 1985- May 1991
Mechanical Engineer, Performed mechanical design/analysis and
electro-mechanical design for Navy electronic and mechanical
systems. Regularly attended engineering design technology
seminars to adapt and recommend new design technologies to
current tasks and projects. Participated in recommendation
and purchase of in-house CADDS system. Supervised CAD
department. Instituted format procedure for generating and
storing CAD data. Contributed ideas and narrative to proposal
team for government contracts. Produced technical manuals for
Navy personnel operation of equipment and inspection
procedures.
