Graduate Research Study
• Isolation of Microsatellite DNA Loci in Stizorhina Fraseri - Rufous Flycatcher-Thrush
(SFR)
• Study objectives:
1. Isolate DNA from SFR species from the Congo and develop a set of microsatellite
markers
2. Use these microsatellites to design locus specific PCR primers
3. Use the developed primers and amplify by PCR microsatellites loci of several
SFR species from different regions of Africa
4. Evaluate SFR population genetics and evolution within and between regions by
determining their microsatellites variability
• Gained skilled in DNA extraction, cell culture, DNA cloning, PCR, gel electrophoresis,
DNA purification, DNA sequencing, primers design, microsatellite genotyping
