EXPER IENCE :
U niversity of North Texas l Adjunct Professor l Denton, Texas (2003-2014)
-Taught three upper-level History courses per semester. Courses taught include World
C ivilization to 1500, World Civilization 1500-Present, the United States as a World Power
1890-Present, U.S. H istory 1865-Present, the I talian Renaissance, the Protestant
Reformation, Greek Civilization 3000 BCE-330 BCE, the Ancient Near East, and Ancient
Mesopotamia. Two other courses that were taught with extensive positive feedback can be
found nowhere else in the U.S.: “Sumerian Civilization” and “Bronze Age Greece.”
-Courses were among the most successful in the department, which can be gauged by the
l arge number of students who changed their majors to H istory after taking my classes (See
Ratemyprofessor.com for student comments).
-Received university recognition at the annual Honors Day ceremony at the end of the 2008-
2009 academic year for Excellence in teaching.
-Undergraduate Advisor for the Department of H istory, 2004-2014. Assisted more than 250
H istory majors with degree plans, planning course schedules, and advising on career
opportunities for H istory majors. As representative of the department’s Undergraduate
P rogram, took part in university recruitment events designed to attract H igh School juniors
and seniors to UNT. In addition, oversaw the department’s annual Freshman and Transfer
O rientation sessions that are held during the summers.
-Graduate Advisor for the Department of H istory, 2008-2011. Responsible for review of
applications and decision on student admission to the program, evaluation of the
department’s Teaching Assistants and Teaching Fellows, the development of degree plans,
and for the general advising of graduate students.
-Faculty Co- Leader of the East Asia Institute at the University of North Texas, 2004. The
focus of this semester-long program was designed to instruct area high school teachers how
to make the study of East Asia an integral part of their own World History courses.
-Faculty leader of the University of North Texas Study Abroad Program to Greece, 2013.
T he course was taught in Greece and allowed for the visitation of major historical sites in
addition to the more t raditional lecture presentations.
-Faculty Mentor to several student’s Capstone projects, some of which were published in the
Eagle Aerie.
-Ex-officio member of the Department of History’s Undergraduate Committee.

McKinney Job Corps Center Coach/Recreation Specialist McKinney, Texas (1985-1988 ).
-Head Coach of men’s basketball and women’s softball and basketball teams. Under my
leadership these teams achieved greater success than any of the athletic teams that this
Job Corps had ever produced. Established the men’s team into a local basketball league, in
addition to their league against other Texas Job Corps’ centers. Organized a fund-raising
campaign to supply these teams with new uniforms, and was able to raise more than $1000.
ACCOMPL ISH M ENTS
-Doctoral dissertation won the University of North Texas “Dissertation of the Year” award
i n 2003. Recognized at Honor’s Day ceremony and received $1000 award.
-Book reviews published in the academic journal H istorian .
-Ar ticles in several historical fields, including Renaissance I taly, early modern England,
and Af rican-American baseball.
-Reading f luency in several languages, including Latin, I talian, Greek, French, Spanish,
and Portugese.
-Have made nine t r ips abroad to Greece and I taly for archival research or to lead Study
A broad programs.

-Played college basketball, have run over 100 road races including 18 marathons.
