Whilst preparing for my GCSE’S I started at Smile Hairdressers as a Saturday girl in April 2007. Once I had finished my exams Smile offered me a full time position as a trainee.

I had been working full time for Smile Hair salon in Ascot since July 2007 working as part of a team of ten people. My original duties were to keep the salon clean and tidy, wash hair and greet people at reception. The company is very keen to promote excellent customer care service which has given me good personable skills.

I worked for the next two years gaining my qualifications in all aspects of hairdressing within this time I was put forward to compete in the Trainee National Federation of Hairdressing competition in Southampton where I was a joint runner up competing with 34 people. I also completed two courses in London for colouring and corrective colouring where I received a diploma on both accounts. I then became a colour technician where I built up my own personal clientele.

I then gained my NVQ 2 Certificate in hairdressing in July 2009 which allowed me to become a stylist which included styling, cutting and colouring. However to be able to cut and style on the shop floor I had to do a presentation evening of 11 different hair cuts which were thoroughly checked by the owner of Smile and two members of the art team which I had to get a grade 7 or above to be able to pass in which I succeeded. I also had the responsibility of liaising with other company’s ordering products and I was given senior authority to work with the trainees in training and reinforcing their role as a junior.

Position: Senior Stylist

My duties at Artwork were to give good customer service, colour,cut and style hair and to give my advice where necessary. Here I gained a very good client base and I learnt the importance of good customer care.

I left this salon because I felt that I wasn’t learning or growing as a stylist and wanted to experience somewhere that I can learn from other people and grow in my career.

Position: Master hair designer

Here at Headmasters; being a top London chain they pride themselves on being at an extremely high level of service of customer care making clients feel comfortable, to cut and colour hair to a high quality standard, to sell products, to meet targets, to listen and understand the clients needs and to suggest alternatives when need be. I also do lots of reception work such as answering phones, booking appointments and cashing up. There are 13 stylists and assistants so we work very closely as part of a team to give the best service possible.

Position: Senior stylist

Salon Ink is one of the top 5 salons in Dubai with a team of 20 with nationalities from all over the world. It is predominantly an expat salon but I also had clients from all over the world who were travelling so communication was key. Their main focus is on colouring and using lots of ombre and fashion colour techniques which was great as I love to be creative. Being an only ladies salon they are also very keen on pristine blowdrys and excellent customer service.
