WORK EXPERIENCE
Speech and language assistant
New Bedford public schools - New Bedford, MA
Responsibilities
Provide speech and language therapy to children pre-k to grade 3. Attend IEP meetings for students in therapy.
Follow documented treatment plans or protocols developed by the supervising SLP
Document student, patient, and client performance (e.g., tallying data for the SLP to use; preparing charts,
records, and graphs) and report this information to the supervising SLP.
Program and provide instruction in the use of augmentative and alternative communication devices.
Demonstrate or share information with families, and staff.
Accomplishments
I have been at this position since January and during that time I have seen an improvement in my students.
I have also received positive feed back from other staff members (teachers) in regards to noted progress in
certain students. I find my job very rewarding and enjoy working with my students. I especially enjoy teaching
students to express themselves with language rather than inappropriate behaviors. We practice social skills
in therapy and that has been a great help to some students that were unable to express their feelings socially
prior to therapy.
