In preparation for the migration from Business Objects XI R3 to Business Objects XI R4, I
was tasked with converting all standard Business Objects reports from Desktop Intelligence to
Web Intelligence / Rich Client. This was upwards of 200 financial reports.
The project was based at UBS in Zurich Switzerland.

CA Service Desk Reporting

On another Prudential project I worked as a support analyst in their support centre
where in addition to my support activities I produced reports to monitor the IT support
performance of their call centres recorded in CA Service Desk. This was to produce
KPIs for Incident Management, Root Cause Analysis, Change Management, Problem
Resolution and Issue Management using ITIL.
Asset Exposures Risk System – Solvency II
Design and development of a Business Objects information system in Web Intelligence and
Desktop Intelligence to monitor asset values by credit rating and geographic location for Risk
analysis.
This included Database design. Universe design and development based on star schemas.
Business Objects reporting to support the monitoring of the risk of assets held, such as
Bonds, Mortgages etc . Reporting included Top thirty Counterparty analysis, and analysis by
Counterparty credit ratings (supplied through Bloomberg interface). Also dashboard
development using Qlikview.
Group Finance Management Information System
Team leader responsibility on this project. Design and development of a comprehensive
Management Information System for Prudential Group Finance using Deski reports which
were subsequently converted to Webi reports. This included data modelling and design of the
System, table design and development, and construction of a Star Schema model in the
Business Objects Universe. The model catered for All historic data including multiple
versions of each data set and User selection of a specific set of versions when they ran
reports.
I was responsible for the development of several suites of Business Objects reports which
were delivered in a phased implementation, including:
iMonthly Financial Summaries for the Board.
iiQuarterly Financial Summaries for release to the Stock Exchange.
iiiInterim and Full Year Results Packs for the Board.
I worked as a member of a team that provided a complete end to end solution including
uploading of files into MS Sharepoint and automated database update. User access was
through Sharepoint with automated links to BO Infoview and seamless integration to MS
Powerpoint.
A specific feature of the SAP Business Objects reporting, which I pioneered, included a
strategy for a consistent approach to rounding, such that all figures, totals and subtotals across
the full spectrum of monthly, quarterly and annual reports etc,, at different levels of detail,
always gave consistent figures.

One of my major responsibilities was the development of the Business Objects Universe to
provide the necessary reporting capabilities from the corporate data warehouse which was
populated from Catlin’s operational insurance system (The Frame). Catlin operate in both the
Lloyds Insurance market and the London Market.
The Universe structures to support these included both Inwards and Outwards business.
I analysed reporting requirements and developed reporting solutions in Deski for all areas of
the business, including Actuaries, Finance, Claims, Credit Control, Reinsurance,
Underwriting
And Management . This included support of Catlin’s Bermuda operation and other offices.

My main responsibility was the development of Business Objects Universes to provide the
necessary reporting capability to support two Oracle Based Reinsurance Packages. These
were SICSNT Property and Casualty, and SICSNT Life.
The Universe structures to support these were very complex and included the modelling of
Assumed Business, Protection Assignments, Protection Programs, Cessions, Retro Cessions,
Outward Cedent Contracts, Placements etc. and the pairing of inwards and outwards ledger
entries. At a technical level this included using all features of BO Designer including Aliases,
Self Joins, Outer Joins, Prompts, Contexts, Short Cut Joins etc.
There was also the development of a number of standard reinsurance reports including
triangulations.
Duties also included the roll out of the universes to coincide with the release of the
application software. This included converting the Oracle Universes to SQL Server and DB2
platforms and upgrading from SQL Server 7 to 2000.
I developed a 3-Day Business Objects course and delivered it to one of CSC’s clients in
Rotterdam.
July 1999 - March 2000 RSLCOM – Telecoms Company- London
MI Specialist Business Objects V4/V5, Sybase 11.5, Web Intelligence 2.5
In this rapidly expanding Telecoms Company, I developed a suite of Web Intelligence reports
to monitor traffic flows throughout 13 European countries and scheduled them to run
overnight using BCA. These reports provided the means to analyse traffic by route, telecoms
vendor and destination.
On a separate project, I designed and implemented a set of Star schemas to provide data marts
to support each of the 13 countries specific and common reporting needs, including Customer
Traffic monitoring, Inter admin costs and Gross Margins. I gathered the reporting
requirements of each country and developed a set of standard BO reports to satisfy these

requirements.
Other activities included consolidation of a number of Universes, and supporting/training BO
Users in 13 countries. Also administration of User accounts/passwords, access rights, table
mapping etc. Also upgrading from Business Objects 4 to 5.
I developed a Business Objects training course and delivered it to RSLCOMs other offices
throughout Europe.

Package
User interviews and analysis of MIS requirements. Initially this covered Professional
Indemnity insurance but was extended in due course to include all London brokered
commercial lines. I carried out Data Modelling and design of the MIS Data Warehouse using
formal Entity Modelling techniques recorded on Systems Engineer. Liaison with DBA during
physical implementation on HP9000 Unix Sybase 11.5 platform.
Design of interface from SICS insurance package to the Data Warehouse. Design of interface
from Data Warehouse to Gentia multidimensional OLAP MIS system.
Design and build of Business Objects Universe including Classes, Objects, Joins and Aliases
using BO version 4.1.5 . Extensive use of SQL including Characteristic Functions.
Development of in excess of two hundred BO Insurance Queries such as Triangulations,
Summary Tabulations, Large Losses programme claims and catastrophes, Current and Run-
off account movements, written and earned premiums and loss ratios, Reinsurance
calculations etc. to support a BO User base of one hundred users.
As well as extensive use of the BO Design and reporting modules I was also responsible for
the administration of BO User Ids/Passwords and User Groups.
