Operations Manager
Functioned as the Operations manager for DARC’s internal environment. Responsibilities
included Oracle DBA/Oracle Application Administrator/System Administrator for all of DARC’s
internal UNIX systems.
• Managed between thirty-five and forty-five databases that ranged from V7.3.4 to V8.1.7. Installed and
upgraded the various versions.
• Managed/installed Oracle E-Business Suite releases from 10.7 character to 11.5.3 (11i) in fifteen databases.
These Oracle E-Business Suite applications were installed across the Sun Solaris, Compaq Tru64, Hewlett
Packard HP-UX, and IBM AIX operating systems.
• UNIX system administration of ten Sun SPARC servers. Installed and upgraded various versions of Solaris
including 5, 6, and 8. The majority of these servers contained Sun A1000 disk arrays that were configured for
optimal performance and recovery.
• Maintained the porting environment for the ISIX software division. Servers included a Sun Sparc station, a
Compaq Alpha, a Hewlett Packard HP9000, and an IBM RS/6000. Installed/upgraded operating systems residing
on these systems.
• Designed/implemented a backup/recovery process for the 1.5 terabyte of disk storage via Sun’s Solstice
Backup (a repackaged version of Legato’s backup solution).
• Ensured that all systems were Y2K compliant from an operating system, Oracle database, and Oracle E-
Business Suite perspective.
• Coordinated an entire rebuild of DARC’s computer facilities in the Chicago office including the planning of
the facility from a physical, HVAC, and power perspective.
• Check Point training to provide backup support of the site’s Check Point firewall.
FERMI NATIONAL ACCELERATOR LABORATORY, Batavia, Illinois September 1988 – April 1999

Lead Oracle DBA, UNIX system manager, Oracle Applications manager, and PeopleSoft

• Application administrator for PeopleSoft Human Resources, Oracle Financials™, Designer 2000, Enterprise
Manager, and WebServer products, and Computer Associate’s CCC/Harvest application in Digital Unix and
Windows NT environments.
• DBA responsibilities included the installation, upgrade, and maintenance of Oracle databases as well as
database creation, database backup, and database performance monitoring. Upgraded Oracle from V7.0.13 to
V8.0.4.
• System manager for the DEC Alpha systems. Upgraded Digital UNIX from V1.3 to V4.0B.
• Upgraded Oracle Financials™ V9.4 to V10.7NCA. Installed PeopleSoft Human Resources V4.0 and
upgraded to V7.5.
• Maintained the Oracle software and DEC software/hardware contracts.
• Integrated Oracle Data Browser™ and SQL*Net® into Macintosh and Windows NT client/Windows NT
server environments.
• Documented the Oracle Optimal Flexible Architecture and system security at the Digital Unix operating
system, Oracle database, and the Oracle Financials™ application levels.

System manager and backup team lead for the group that maintained Fermilab’s Central Facility VAX clusters, the

cluster. Installed, upgraded, evaluated, and maintained various software packages, performed system tuning,
monitoring, and software development.

Responsible for all technical computing facilities within the IITRI Chicago organization.
• System manager of a DEC VAX 11/785 and two DEC MicroVAX IIs. Installation and upgrades of VMS,
system tuning, installation of software products, installation/maintenance of DECnet, and installation of the
company wide Ethernet.
• Wrote an interface between Research and Locomotive Evaluator Simulator, Bolt, Beranek and Newman's
(BBN) RS/1, and the SAS statistical package, and participated in the writing of a data capture/management system
for the project.
• Liaison to the Life Science division with responsibilities that included the upkeep and creation of new utilities
for BBN’s RS/1. Work included maintaining and updating a data capture/management software package
developed by GD Searle.
• Wrote a database search system that interfaced IBM PCs with videodisc players.
