Research Missouri S&T Mechanical Engineering Department Rolla, MO

Experience Graduate Research Assistant Aug. 2008 – Sep. 2014

Modeling and Simulation of Continuous Fiber-Reinforced Ceramic Composites (AFRL)

Developed comprehensive FEA models for studying the failure behavior in advanced

aerospace materials.

Developed a cohesive damage model (in ABAQUS) for simulating the fiber pull-out in

continuous fiber-reinforced ceramic composites (CFCCs).

Evaluated the mechanical damage behavior of CFCCs using three-dimensional statistically

equivalent micromechanical FEA models. A user material (UMAT) subroutine was

developed to simulate the damage based on a Weibull failure model.

Developed a multiscale FEA framework for simulating the fracture behavior in CFCCs by

integrating with a microstructure image.

Cure and Flow Modeling of Cavity Molded Composite Flex Beams (Bell Helicopters)

Developed coupled heat transfer and flow models (multiphysics model) for process

modeling of a critical component (composite flex-beam) in helicopter rotor system.

Developed an integrated 3D cure and flow model in COMSOL Multiphysics.

Performed cure cycle optimization of a composite flex beam using artificial neural networks.

Conducted isothermal and dynamic Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) tests and

viscosity measurements. Parameters required for simulation were extracted from

experimental curves.

Analysis of Skin/Core Adhesion of Honeycomb Sandwich Structures (Boeing)

Analyzed the adhesion between the core and facesheet of honeycomb sandwich structure.

Evaluated the effects of adhesive reticulation, cell size, and density on bond strength.
