Instrumentation & Control/Project Engineer
Actively managed $30MM Compressor Safety Instrumented System Upgrade project throughout
the refinery. This involves, participating in PHA/LOPA related to compressors, upgrading
instrumentation & controls per ISA84 standard. Recommending alternatives to the design aspect
of the project to keep the cost as low as possible. Oversight 5 subordinates engineer on the
project, and regularly update the upper management about the program with respect to budget
spent, compressors that are in compliance and the remainder scope & budget of the program.
Perform SIL (Safety Integrity Level) calculation on safety instrumented function which serves as
safeguards to overall equipment or process system. Develop Functional Specification, Cause &
Effect matrix, SRS for Safety Instrumented Systems. Develop FAT & FFT procedures for safety
instrumented systems (SIS) and conduct those in the field. Maintain instrumentation database in
InTools.
Working knowledge of PM and PS plant maintenance and project system module of SAP R/3.
Preparation of Project schedules for small capital projects using MS Project. Act as main
coordinator (project, engineering and construction activities) between multiple disciplines,
Vendors and third parties for smooth functioning and timely completion of the project. Conduct
and head Project review meetings.
Participate in Process Hazard Analysis/LOPA as a competent I&C Engineer on Process Units
such as Fuel Gas System, Polypropylene plant and LORU unit. Follow FEL (Front End Loading)

program)
The project involved upgrading 7-8 compressors (Reciprocating, centrifugal, and Turbines) safety
instrumented system trip relay based to HiMAX safety PLC.

Developing Cause & Effect Matrix, performing LOPA analysis to determine the safety integrity
level, SRS (Safety Requirement Specification) & SIL calculations. Participating in programming
safety system, commissioning and start-up of the compressors. Adhering to overall safety
lifecycle management.
Slurry Filtration project (Phillips 66 – Budget $25MM)
Design Safety Instrumented System for Light Olefins Recovery Unit (LORU) (Phillips 66 –
Budget $4MM)
The project involved upgrading the relay based safety system for the Light Olefins plant to
HiMAX safety PLC based. This was the most complex safety system in terms of numerous final
elements involved during the trips. Performing rigorous LOPA analysis to determine which final
elements are truly required to bring the process system in safe state. Oversee the design of the
PLC control panel, participate in FAT for both hardware and software portion of the PLC.
