. Studied microbial genetics topics including maintenance, inheritance
and transfer of genetic material, mechanisms that introduce genetic
diversity, regulation of gene expression, and how genomics impacts
genetics in prokaryotic, eukaryotic and viral systems.
. Completed study of principles of immunology at a molecular and
cellular perspective. Researched innate versus adaptive immunity, B
and T cell activation, antibodies, antigens, and immunological memory.
As team lead, directed group in investigating the biological and
economical pros/cons of trying to eradicate the polio virus.
. Researched human parasitology including flagellates, kinetoplasts,
apicomplexa, cestodes and nematodes. Completed in-depth study on the
effects malaria has on the body and society. Explored government
initiatives to combat the disease as well ongoing research to develop
vaccines/drugs.
. Acted as team lead in completing open-ended research on the influence
of varying atmospheric conditions on gases. Studied/presented the
relationships between pressure, volume and temperature as they apply
to gases. Designed and executed experiment. Analyzed data and
interpreted results in order to reach conclusions.
. Explored properties and uses of organic compounds, correlation of
structure with properties, reaction mechanisms, and utilized modern
approaches to analyzing structural & synthetic problems. Acquired
sound experimental techniques through synthesis of selected compounds.
