2014
Advanced Quality Engineer
AQE support to the Transfer projects team from the TTI Corporate office
• Quality engineering support to the Upright and Carpet washers product lines that were
moved from the Hoover SW operations (Juarez MX/ El Paso TX) to Cookeville
Tennessee, and OEM’s in China. This included plastic injection molding processes,
tooling qualification runs, and final assembly.
• Quality engineering support to Engineering builds, Pilot runs, and mass production start
for each product location. This included existing product lines that were moved to
Tennessee, and Dual source projects for China.
• Reviewed customer returns and updated the project team with any high defect rate issues
that needed to be corrected during a dual source, or product transfer.
• Worked with CTQ (Critical to Quality) scorecards. Worked with Project Engineers to
determine corrective actions for dimensions out of spec (tool change, process change, or
change tolerance)
• Developed Product performance specifications for OEM’s based on 3 standard
deviation
• Worked with OEM’s on the generation of PFMEA’s for each product platform
• Developed Control plans and worked with OEM’s for process improvements
• Developed Inspection procedures, quality instructions, and inspection plans for molding,
sub-assemblies, assembly lines, and Customer audit.
• Worked with OEM’s to implement the use of gages for critical dimensions, red / green
(go-no-go) masters, standard work, standard operating procedures, and sampling plans
for each product location.
The Hoover Company 2000 to
2014
SW PLS & Value Engineering leader 2013 to 2014
Administered cost reduction projects that resulted in a $5.2 m savings in one year period. This
was done with tactical and technical schemes and programs that included the reduction of cost
for manufacturing and assembly, the introduction of alternative resins and materials, and the
price negotiations on specific purchased components.
• Managed a cross functional team that included key personnel from the local office and
the TTI-Ohio corporate office, who focused on cost reduction initiatives for the
(Juarez/El Paso) manufacturing plants.
• Identified opportunities and implement changes to improve products or reduced costs
using knowledge of fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment, assembly
methods, quality control standards, or product design, materials and parts.
• Worked with outside suppliers to procure lower cost alternative resins
• Tested and validated substitute resins for specific components used on the final product.
• Worked with the Regulatory affairs group from the Ohio Corporate office to obtain safety
agency (UL) approvals on resin changes.
• Planned and drove form, fit, and function validations, pilot runs, and Reliability lab
testing as required
• Wrote engineering change requests (ECR) and engineering change notices (ECN) to
implement engineering changes in the system. This included BOM updates in Oracle and
drawing revision in Windshield/PDM link.
Sr. Product Line Support Engineer 2003 to 2013
Worked with various R&D Engineering teams from the corporate office and contributed with the
launch of fifteen new platforms for the SW (EP & Juarez) manufacturing operations. This
includes Uprights, Carpet washers, and Commercial models. Introduced and average of sixteen
variations of existing products per year.
• Responsible for the introduction of new derivative models in production. This includes
domestic, commercial, and export products
• Supervised Production data control Engineers, and Product line support Engineers
• Responsible for the creation of BOM’s (Bill of materials) for each model variation
• Procurement of (made in house + outsourced) component parts required for engineering
builds and/or pilot runs of each model variation
• Planning and execution of product pilot runs at final assembly
• Trained production personnel in new or existing methods for new model introduction
• Creation of implementation plans in Windshield/PDM link to assign specific tasks for
engineering print revisions, routings, and BOM updates in Oracle.
• Engineering support to the production of plastic components at the EP Plant, and product
final assembly at the Juarez Plant
• Wrote ECR’s and ECN’s to promote engineering changes as required to facilitate
assembly, and to prevent & eliminate quality issues on the field
• Worked directly with outside safety agencies such as Underwriters Laboratories (UL),
and Canadian Standards Association (CSA) on engineering changes and Factory
quarterly audits in both (El Paso & Juarez) manufacturing sites and had no factory
variation notices as a result of these audits.
Sr. Quality Control Engineer 2000 to 2003
Provided technical support related to the manufacturing of electric motors used on the final
product. This included the construction of fields and armatures at the EP side, and the motor
assembly line in Juarez, Mexico.
• Manager of the El Paso Quality Precision Measurement lab, and the materials incoming
inspection department.
• Supervised Quality Control Technicians, incoming inspection auditors, and quality
control process inspectors.
• Determined root causes of field failures using statistical methods and recommended
engineering changes in designs, tolerances, or processing methods.
• Managed a Green Belt-Lean Sigma project that helped reduce the scrap rates on some
specific (made in house) component parts
• Instituted visual aids at critical stations and electrical testers to prevent quality issues that
helped reduce scrap rates by approximately 10% on a yearly basis.
• Participated in various Lean Sigma projects that helped improve efficiency, reduce scrap
cost, improve floor layouts, mold and models change in final assembly, and materials
flow in both, El Paso and Juarez manufacturing plants.
