1999-2014 Manildra Milling Corporation: Shawnee Mission, KS
Manildra Milling is a privately held corporation that supplies wheat based
ingredients to the food processing/baking industry throughout the world.
They are the largest supplier of wheat proteins in North America with
manufacturing plants in the United States, Asia, and Australia. Manildra
Milling produces a wide variety of products that also include wheat
starches, vital wheat gluten, specialty proteins, and ethanol.
Technical Director Responsible for providing technical assistance to
R&D, manufacturing, and sales in the formulation, development, quality
improvement, and marketing of vital wheat gluten, modified starches,
isolated wheat proteins, and texturized products. Inclusive within these
were responsibilities for product development, technical sales, product
information bulletins, technical service, labeling & nutritional data,
complaint resolution, and monitoring regulatory compliance within the
company.
Accomplishments:
. Developed a complete line of modified food & industrial wheat
starches resulting in several million lbs.

. Developed Gemstar R70 a new R 4 type low carbohydrate resistant
starch offering 70% minimum total dietary fiber
in a modified starch. Resulting in $1.5 MM payout to

. Developed technical data sheets, application bulletins, and

1990-1999 Tate & Lyle: Decatur, IL
Received several promotions of ever increasing responsibility throughout a
9-year tenure with this company. The Tate & Lyle Corporation is one of the
largest corn refiners in the United States. It is a prominent supplier of
carbohydrate based value added ingredients, which include sweeteners,
starches, hydrolyzed vegetable proteins, and ethanol.
August 1995-July 1999:
General Manager/Plant Manager: Vico Operations: Directly responsible for
the total operation, management, and P&L of a hydrolyzed vegetable protein
plant. Manufacturing (75 MM lb/yr) of savory flavoring products offered in
liquid, paste, powder (spray dried), and granular (vacuum dried) forms.
Accomplishments:
. Developed a self directed/team based work force which improved
both productivity and costs.
. Through operator training, preventative maintenance, and
employee involvement achieved excellence in both
product quality (99.9%) and safety (0 RCA for 2yr.)
. Worked with Customer Service to improved on time delivery to
exceed 99.0%
. Optimized manufacturing process and was able to increase the
plant production capacity by 25%
December 1992-August 1995:
Area Manager Dry Starch Section: Responsible for the management of
starch modification, drying, packaging, production control and warehousing
sections. Total responsibility for the business unit's performance in 5 key
goal areas that included: quality, safety, production, cost, and management
systems. Note: During my tenure in this position the company and the union
became involved in a labor dispute that resulted in a lockout of union
members. This situation, although unfortunate, presented the management
team a unique opportunity for changes in equipment, operations, and
manning. The changes made during this period had a very positive effect on
plant efficiency, productivity, and profitability. Thus new life was given
to what had been a marginally profitable operation.

the management and direction of Quality within the starch modification and
processing area. This included direct responsibility for management of the
quality control laboratory, primary contact for resolution of customer
complaints, developing and implementing HACCP, AIB & Food Safety Standards,
SPC implementation, writing SOP's, identifying quality trends, maintaining
formulas, and offering technical support and training to the area.

Began my professional career with National Starch & Chemical and worked in
a variety of management positions during a 12-year tenure. National Starch
is a large research driven worldwide manufacturer of food ingredients,
natural polymers, specialty polymers, and adhesives with sales in excess of
$3.0 billion.
Quality Control Supervisor Responsible for the operation and
management of the Quality Control Laboratory that was staffed by 20
analysts and 4 salaried technicians. Major duties include product approval,
data analysis, training, evaluating the quality of incoming raw materials,
effluent and environmental monitoring, development and implementation of
