INDUSTRIAL EXPERIENCE:
Plant Process Engineer Jan. 2015 – Present
Air Products and Chemical, Geismar, LA
• Support Geismar Syngas Seperation Unit (SSU) process plant producing carbon monoxide, hydrogen and syngas
as the lone process engineer on site
• Interface daily with multifunctional team consisting of maintenance, operations, engineering and management
personnel
• Optimize and troubleshoot new expansion hydrocarbon coldbox, as well as the rest of the plant
• Collaborate with project engineering team to develop productivity and reliability improvement capital projects
• Provide a commitment to safe and highly reliable operation through Hazard, Operability, Reliability and Safety
Reviews
• Develop technical expertise in cryogenic hydrogen separation, hydrogenation catalysis, temperature swing
absorption units, MEA CO2 units and pressure swing absorption units
Plant Process Engineer
Air Products and Chemicals, New Orleans, LA July 2014 – Jan. 2015
• Primary process engineering support for medium sized (40 MMSCFD Hydrogen) High Reliability Steam Methane
Reformer (SMR) Plant
• Interfaced daily with multifunctional team consisting of maintenance, operations, engineering and management
personnel
• Optimized process to run as efficiently as possible
o Maintained plant efficiency ~2% below budget despite several processes upsets.
• Drove plant through extended outage successfully coordinating several reliability and efficiency improvement
projects
• Provided technical support to operations team during start-ups and other unusual plant activities
• Led investigation into declining performance of prereformer catalyst bed
• Acted as plant liaison providing day-to-day support for multiple Research and Development projects on site
• Developed technical process knowledge of reforming furnaces, pressure swing adsorption units, membrane units,
and reforming and shift catalysts.
Plant Engineer July 2013 – July 2014
Air Products and Chemicals, Convent & Garyville, LA
• Contributed engineering and operations support to two world scale hydrogen producing Steam Methane
Reforming (SMR) plants.
• Helped in the planning and execution of one major turnaround >35 days, (Garyville SMR Jan 2014) and in
the planning of a second major turnaround Convent SMR (November 2014)
• Acted as Operations management of change(MOC) lead during standard operation and turnarounds.
o Initiated and served as coordinator for 55 MOCs at both plants.
• Coordinated Best Practice implementation for Garyville SMR, determining relevant Best Practices and their
specific scope at the plant.
• Supervised change-out and re-installation of 63 PSVs during Garyville SMR turnaround.
• Organized technical review meetings and completed required pre-work to postpone the Convent SMR outage
approximately one year.
• Worked with operators to ensure consistent use of Stable Operations tool. Studied dents to find potential
inefficiencies.
• Developed intricate knowledge of day to day plant operations and helped troubleshoot plant issues.
• Participated in plant safety meetings, work permit audits, and closed an open OPHR action item.
• Mentored operations engineering Co-op.
HyCO Process Systems Engineer Aug. 2012 – July 2013
Air Products and Chemicals, Allentown, PA
• Provided systems engineering support for a major (~$70 MM) retrofit project, Baytown Natural Gas Retrofit.
• Engaged engineering team, vendors and plant operations to develop ~100 sheet P&ID from HAZOP through
construction, managing FCN change notices between P&ID revisions.
• Developed shutdown matrix for three new compressors and two membrane skids added in retrofit project.
Integrated new equipment into existing shutdown matrix and alarm and trip table.
• Composed and maintained extensive valve, instrument, line and tie-in lists documenting entire project scope.
• Worked with engineering contractor Ref Chem to confirm accurate design as project progressed. Participated in
several model reviews of Ref Chem and other vendor CAD piping models.
• Helped new systems engineering lead transition to project.
• Established understanding of P&ID structure, HAZOP procedure, control logic, Alarm & Shutdown matrix logic
and operating procedures for new process.
Internship – ACES Simulation and Design Services June 2011 – Aug. 2011
Air Products and Chemicals, Allentown, PA
• Assisted in the development and testing of in-house fluid flow simulator (UltraFlo), providing feedback to
development team through firsthand use and previous user comments.
• Checked fluid dynamics calculations for accuracy.
• Created UltraFlo user help file and tutorial.
