Career Summary
Senior Scientist with experience in protein characterization, peptide mapping, post translational
modification identification and quantitation from a discovery biological mass spectrometry department.
Expertise includes small molecule quantitation in complex matrices. Highly organized with diverse skill
set able to adapt to a rapidly changing environment.
Experience
GlaxoSmithKline, Inc., Research Triangle Park, North Carolina
Biomolecular Sciences & Chemical Sciences, GlaxoSmithKline, Inc.
Senior Scientist 2001-Present
Collaborate with drug discovery teams committed to investigating protein and small molecule targets in
infectious diseases, metabolic pathways, and oncology.
o Increased protein identification in cell lysates by 40% with the development of a new method to
chromatographically fractionate tryptic peptides for proteomics effort.
o Lead designer and manager of worldwide open-access protein characterization LC/MS platform
that automatically runs protein sample, deconvolutes, generates report and distributes report.
o Developed a LC/MS/MS method to measure femtomolar levels of a novel intracellular protein
from cell lysates that was not measurable by any other method, the results validated in vitro
proof of concept to pursue a new HIV target.
o Chosen for GSK’s Excellence in Science Award for identifying elevated primary and secondary
bile acids for diabetes project team.
o Developed new processes for denaturing and non-denaturing techniques used to characterize
protein-ligand and protein-protein complexes to enable structual infomation.
o Created quantitation methods used throughout GSK for diverse set of endogenous and small
molecules leading candidate selection.
o Coordinated in-house metabolomic capabilities with outside company to bring in new
technology.
Medicinal Chemistry Department, Glaxo Wellcome Inc.
Scientist 1999-2001
o Managed an open-access small molecule LC/MS laboratory for medicinal chemistry department
which provided structure elucidation and sample purity results to over 80 chemists.
Schein Pharmaceuticals, Phoenix, Arizona
Product Development
Lead Research Scientist 1998-1999
o Developed LC/MS methods in a GMP environment to quantitate formulated bulk drugs;
these methods were transferred to Quality Control to quality check final products.
Upjohn Company, Kalamazoo, Michigan
Structural Analytical & Medicinal Chemistry
Chemist 1992-1998
o Provided structure elucidation and high resolution mass spectrometry for R&D chemistry.
o Developed GC, HPLC and CZE methods for achiral and chiral separations for medicinal
chemistry.
