COMMUNITY SERVICE
MOTIVATIONAL SPEAKER 2004 to present
In April of 1997, I was struck by a sudden and severe neurological attack that left me
a blind quadriplegic in a mere 48 hours. Before this life-changing event, I ran 100
miles per week and participated in marathons. I spent the next 11 years in hospitals,
rehabilitations centers, nursing homes, and assisted living facilities (on both sides of
the Atlantic). During those years of vigorous physical therapy, I regained use of my
arms and my vision, enabling me to drive a hand-controlled vehicle and regain a life
of my own. My health has been stable for over 10 years.
I have published a book aimed at helping others adjust to misfortune. By turning my
own adversity into advocacy and emotional support for others, I have tried to change
lives and make each day count.
I have given speeches to organizations including: Marquette University School of
Nursing, Neenah Rotary, Appleton Youth Club, Neenah High School STRIVE Group,
Theda Care at Home, Neenah Club, Oshkosh Kiwanis, Calvary Bible Church, Free
Masons, Brillon Public Library, Machine Shed Breakfast Club, Neenah Optimists,.
