Driller / Construction Worker
Unloading/loading of the truck. Loaded boxes of dynamite, unloaded drills and steel for
the job
Worked as part of a rock blasting crew, using an 85 lb. air jackhammer drill, required lots
of constant lifting and physical strength. Often needing to lift the drill to arm length above
the head, in order to free the bit.
Using the drill, and handling the dynamite taught me to be safe and alert while working a
dangerous job.
Required a lot of focus, and to have a good understanding of the drill and how to drill in
rock, to prevent the drill bit from becoming stuck, breaking the bit off or damaging the
hole.
By me being part of the crew, it allowed the other driller to swap out between holes and
rest. Also freed up someone to help load the dynamite. This let us drill more holes each
day, and we were able to accomplish more work.
Assisted loading the holes with dynamite, and wiring the charges for the shot.
