Regional Superintendent – Flour Milling Industry
Collaborative, hands-on regional superintendent in the flour milling industry. Extensive experience in multisite leadership,
quality management, process improvement, and project management – including building and remolding mills. Known as
an inspirational leader who works tirelessly to improve capacity and lower yields. Degree in Food Manufacturing and
Flour Milling from City and Guilds of London Institute. Core competencies include:
Operations leadership. At Cereal Food Processors, provided operations leadership to the management teams at
up to seven mills in North America – whose revenues totaled $350M annually. Mentored young millers; several were
promoted to head miller, mill superintendent, and plant manager. Helped reduced five-year average workman’s
compensation claims by 66%, OSHA recordable incidents by 45%, and lost workday incident rate by 52%.
Process improvement. Proven ability to drive costs and wastes out of an operation while simultaneously
improving quality. In 2003, for instance, requested by senior management to improve operations at the recently
acquired Montreal mill. Improved capacity 14%, from 3500 cwt to 4000 cwt per day, in less than three months of
receiving of the assignment – without any capital investment.
Project management. Over the past 10 years, led 25+ projects totaling $6M – with budgets as large as $1M,
timeframes up to 12 months, and teams of up 10 people (as well as contractors). In Great Falls, improved capacity
39%, from 5400 cwt to 7500 cwt per day, by replacing or upgrading every piece of equipment over a 10-year period.
Achieved similar success in Cleveland during a 15-year program to modernize every facet of the facility.
Professional Experience
1999 – October 2014 Cereal Food Processors, a Grain Craft Company Kansas City,
Missouri
Grain Craft was formed in May 2014 after Milner Milling and Pendleton Flour Mills acquired Cereal Food Processors.
The combined companies form the third largest flour milling operation in the United States. Cereal Food’s sales were
$650M last year. Customers include Kellogg’s, Pizza Hut, and McDonald’s. Grain Craft’s combined sales are $1.2B.
Regional Superintendent 2004 – October 2014
Provided operations leadership to the management teams at up to seven of the company’s 11 mills. Mills are located
in Cleveland, Ohio; Montreal, Canada (sold in 2007); Great Falls, Montana; Billings, Montana; Ogden, Utah;
Portland, Oregon; and Salt Lake City, Utah. Revenues exceed $350M annually.
Led 25+ projects totaling $6M – with budgets as large as $1M, timeframes up to 12 months, and teams of up 10
people (as well as contractors).
In Great Falls, improved capacity 39%, from 5400 cwt to 7500 cwt per day, by replacing or upgrading every piece of
equipment over a 10-year period. The original plant was built in 1910.
Achieved similar success in Cleveland during a 15-year program to modernize every facet of the facility.
Selected by the VP of Operations to lead additional projects at our Los Angeles and MacPherson mills to increase
capacity. Each project was on a narrow 10-day window of scheduled downtime.
Partnered with the Corporate Safety Manager to reduce five-year average workman’s compensation claims by 66%,
OSHA recordable incidents by 45%, and lost workday incident rate by 52%.
Developed a process management standard that improved safety and was implemented companywide. Used
AutoCAD and plant layouts for machines and motor listings to ensure Lock Out / Tag Out. Also located fire
extinguishers and emergency escape routes; this was key to passing OSHA audits.
Developed preventative maintenance and sanitation programs, including high risk areas in grain elevators, which
improved safety and reduced unscheduled downtime.
Received only one OSHA citation among all six sites in the past three years.
Mentored young millers and supervisors to perform their own troubleshooting and maintenance. Taught them how to
layout new equipment, install it properly, improve their yields, and increase plant capacity. Seven were promoted
through the ranks to head miller, mill superintendent, and plant manager.
