PROFESSIONAL SUMMARY

Offering 20 years of experience in the electronics industry as a degreed engineer in both software and hardware design.

CAREER PROFILE

Emerson Process Management, Austin TX, 3/98 – 10/14

Senior Software Engineer – I/O Services Group 3/08 – 10/14

The I/O Services Group, designs and maintains embedded firmware for Emerson’s DeltaV industrial process control product line.

In this group I was responsible for:

• Developing the software requirement specification (SRS) document which addresses all the message types for the card and details of how the memory, WDT and other supporting components are to be tested in software.

• Documenting how the product will be tested in manufacturing, using pass-through software commands, as well as any calibration commands.

• Performing unit tests and integration tests before product handoff to the System Test Team.

• Promptly addressing any incidents/bugs which may be discovered while in System Test.

• Maintaining version control of software in MS SourceSafe.

In addition, also supported:

• Utility programs which aided in the analysis and upgrade of these products mostly written in Visual Studio MFC or C#.

• Maintaining version control of software in MS Team Foundation Server.

Products Designed and Released:

• Redundant 32-channel discrete input card

• Redundant 32-channel discrete output card

Both of these products use an IAR compiler and the Freescale’s 9S12G192 16-bit microprocessor. These products were a global effort with the hardware designed in China and the software, which was written in C, created in Austin TX.

Products Supported:

• The following products utilize the same 32-bit microprocessor (MPC850) and compiler/debugger tool sets:

o ASi, DeviceNet and ProfiBus communication cards using 3rd party (Softing) stacks and PSOS. This code was written in C++.

• In addition, to the above supported products, also responsible for support of all I/O products upon senior support staff retirement.

Senior Software Engineer – Productivity Team 11/06 – 3/08

The Productivity Team, provides software developers and the System Test Team the tools they need to increase their productivity.

In this group I was responsible for:

• Developing and maintaining an Intranet Web Site based on Microsoft SharePoint Team Services.

• Researching and installing a Wiki-web site using the FlexWiki software.

• Developing a GUI interface using Visual Studio 2005, C#. This tool allowed the use of many instances of a program which would simulate a large scale system for the System Test Team.

• Developing a database query tool for our domain managers. This service would query a SQL-database nightly. This database contained all of the (incidents/bugs) for a given software release. The managers would view these results with the Crystal Reports XI graphing engine. This program was written and deployed using Visual Studio C#.

Senior Hardware Engineer- Hardware Group 3/98 – 11/06

The Hardware Design Group is responsible for developing products for the DeltaV product line utilizing Freescale’s 32-bit microprocessors or 16-bit microcontrollers. These products consist of a two board set; the microprocessor and its support circuitry on one board and the field circuitry on the second board. SPI channels are used for communication between these boards in most cases.

In this group I was responsible for:

• Developing all aspects of the design from the concept phase through release to production. This cycle consists of a direction statement, concept design, prototype tests and results, release to production, first article inspection and certification.

• Holding design documentation reviews and meeting minutes for each phase of the product cycle.

• Initiating the engineering change request and documentation of manufacturing rework instructions as well as products in the field.

• Initiating the certification process for Zone2 placement per EN50021 standard and for Class 1, Division 2 with Factory Mutual, for all products being released from the hardware group.

• Creating the documentation packet which is used for CSA certification.

Products Designed and Released:

• 10Base-T to 10Base-FL Media converter, this product was designed to meet -40 to 70ºC extended temperature specification.

• Vertical Mount Back-plane system utilizing the SPITM communication bus rated at 8 Amps, this product allowed a better implementation of cable marshalling.

• Multifunction Card, utilizing Motorola’s 32-bit communication processor MPC850.

• Analog Input and Analog Output Cards with HART. These cards utilized the Freescale 16-bit 68HC912D60A. These cards needed to support redundancy, reduced cost, and hold the accuracy from -40 to 70ºC.

• Safety Logic Solver (SLS), this product was certified SIL3 per EN61508 standard.

Freedom Power Systems, Inc., Austin TX, Design Engineer, 4/96 – 3/98

• Designed a five output, 125-watt, switch-mode power supply.

• Designed a redundant, 410-watt, lead acid battery charger.

• Improved the design of a second-generation, 150-watt power supply.

Wayne Dresser Industries, Austin, TX, (c/o EDP Services) 9/95 - 4/96

• Participated in on-site installation and field support of Chevron’s “touch screen” project.

• Initiated software diagnostic utilities for evaluation of products both in house and in the field.

• Verified, procured, and field installed, temperature-rated linear power supplies at several beta test sites in the Austin area for Mobil’s “Speed Pass” project.

Applied Magic Inc., Vista, CA. Associate Engineer 10/94-3/95

• Verified Bus control with logic analyzer for video editing equipment.

• Wrote PALASM equations for existing and pending video editing products.
